Her Rise 324
r 324 A Rat
Doing so came with a huge risk–it would only add to her mental pressure.
If she made even the smallest mistake, people would blow it out of proportion.
However, if she succeeded, it would completely clear her name.
Because Athena insisted, the hospital finally agreed to the livestream. She had absolute confidence in her skills and was not afraid of failure.
Besides, she suspected there was still a rat hiding nearby.
This livestream was the perfect chance to smoke them out.
At that moment, Maya had finally escaped the crowd of reporters. Everyone’s attention was now on Athena’s surgery, and no one cared about her anymore.
Disheveled and furious, Maya returned to her office.
When the silence set in, she exploded–sweeping everything off her desk.
“Damn you, Athena!”
She pulled up the livestream on her computer and saw Athena completely focused on the operation, surrounded by several assisting nurses.
When Maya spotted one of them, her lips curved into a sly smile.
She had not lost just yet.
Outside the OR, Preston leaned against the wall, staring at the screen.
Athena’s surgery was still underway. Everything happening outside no longer mattered to her–none of it did.
Dressed in her surgical gown and mask, only her eyes were visible, calm yet deeply focused. It was as if she had shut out the entire world; the only thing that existed in her gaze was the smooth completion of the operation.
During the final stages, Athena suddenly noticed something off with the surgical clamp–it was not locking properly.
Just as she was about to replace the instrument, one of the nurses called out, “Dr. Hall, the patient’s heart rate is dropping! Use the defibrillator!”
Athena’s brows furrowed. She glanced at the monitor, then immediately grabbed the nurse’s hand to stop
her.
Her tone was steady. “It’s not ventricular fibrillation. The electrode pad just lost contact.”

She had suspected before that someone had switched the patient’s medical file–and even thought Jaylee might be involved–but now the real culprit had finally slipped up.
“B–but…” the nurse stammered.
Athena gave her a cold look. “Who’s the lead surgeon here–you or me?”
The nurse fell silent, lips pressed tight.
As the lead surgeon, Athena’s decision was final. Everyone else had to follow her lead without question.
Since she said it was just a loose connection, no one else could step in to handle it over her.
The nurse’s expression stiffened. She forced herself to stay calm. After all, this was a livestream. She could not afford to slip.
However, when she passed the scalpel, her grip “accidentally” loosened, and the blade clattered to the floor.
The sharp sound cut through the room.
I’m sorry, Dr. Hall,” the nurse said quickly. “I dropped it by mistake. It’s just one scalpel, it shouldn’t be a problem, right?”
Athena’s gaze turned icy.
Then, she said to Jaylee, “Go get the spare scalpel I prepared earlier. Sanitize it first.”
Jaylee immediately nodded. “Yes, Dr. Hall.”
The nurse’s face drained of color. She had not expected Athena to have a backup ready. Everything she had done just went to waste, and might even expose her.
Outside the OR, Zaden’s expression darkened as he watched the interfering nurse on the screen. He had not expected someone inside the operating room to sabotage Athena.
Fortunately, Athena’s composure never broke.
Otherwise, this operation could have failed.
Preston, on the other hand, watched with satisfaction. Athena’s quick thinking impressed him deeply.
