He blurted out, “Athena! The OB–GYN who delivered your baby! Her name is Maden Rhett. She used to work at your hospital! I think she and Nina are distant relatives. She handled a lot of things. She transferred out later, but I know where she lives now!”

He spat out the name and a rough address, as if it were his last hope.

Athena stared him down, as if memorizing every detail of his pitiful state.

So much information was coming at her, her mind buzzed as she tried to piece it together.

She didn’t cry or shout. Her cold stare made Lewis shiver, his sobbing slowly dying away.

She stood up, straightening to her full height, looking down at the shattered man on the other side of the glass.

She couldn’t believe her seven years of love and hate with this man were built on something so ridiculous and dirty.

Her ex-husband had been a fraud.

Her child’s father had been a lie.
