If you can calm down, we’ll talk. Tyrone said.

Aella felt something in her completely shatter.

She didn’t even have the strength to argue. Eyes closed, she just lay there small, silent, like she was disappearing right in front of him.

Tyrone hesitated, then turned and went into the bathroom to clean up.

They’d fought before, sure. But Aella had never destroyed anything.

She wasn’t the type to make him beg. Usually, after she cooled off, she’d come back to him on her own.

Because she loved him too much.

But this timeshe was angry.

Really angry.

Because he’d forgotten their third anniversary.

And no matter what gift he tried to throw at her afterward, it meant nothing.

After a shower and a change into pajamas, Tyrone went downstairs and came back with a bowl of grits.

He set it on the nightstand and sat down beside her.

Come on,he said. Eat something.

Aella turned her back to him.

Tyrone sighed, then pulled her upright, his arm firm around her shoulders.

Eat this,he said quietly. Then we’ll forget about the fainting stunt and you running off to my mom to

tattle.”

Her voice came out hoarse and flat. Tyroneif I’d actually died, would you think I was faking that too?

He froze.

Before her family went bankrupt, she had been spoiled, sure. Reckless, even.

But three years of marriage had changed her.

She wasn’t that girl anymore.

Tyrone turned her to face him. Looks like you’re still not calm.

Aella’s voice trembled. I can’t calm down when I look at you.”

That did it. Tyrone let go and stood up. Then I’ll stay somewhere else. When you’re ready to talk, call me.”

He went to the closet, changed into fresh clothes, and stopped at the foot of the bed.

Aella didn’t move. Didn’t say a word.

A few seconds later, he walked out leaving her drowning in emotions she couldn’t even name.

The next morning, Raine showed up.

Aella was still in bed, pale and quiet.

Raine felt awful but didn’t dare say too much. She pulled Aella out of bed, sat with her through breakfast, then dragged her outside for a walk.

Tyrone had always been strict with her

his little sister.

If she said the wrong thing, he’d really cut her allowance.

Still, the cool air helped. Aella’s mood lifted, just a little.

Raine linked arms with her. Hey, Aella, you didn’t tell Tyrone about that woman, did you?

Aella shook her head. I don’t even want to talk about it. I just need time to think.

Raine was a terrible secret keeper. If she knew Aella was considering divorce, she’d tell the entire Winter family by dinner.

And if that happened, Aella’s parents would hear her mom was still recovering from surgery. It wasn’t

the time.

So Aella just stayed quiet.

Raine sighed, trying to cheer her up. Come on. Let’s go to the mall. Pick whatever you want Tyrone can pay for it.

Aella nodded absently. She didn’t care. Shopping felt pointless.

But when they reached the mall entrance, a guard stepped in front of them.

Sorry, ladies. The store’s been reserved.

Raine blinked. Reserved? Who the hell has the power to rent out our family’s top luxury mall?

Aella tugged her arm gently. Forget it, Raine. Let’s go somewhere else. I just needed some air.

But Raine’s pride wouldn’t let it go. I just want to know who rented it.

The guard looked nervous. The two women were clearly from money. I’m sorry, ma’am. I can’t tell you that.”

Raine narrowed her eyes. You know who I am, right? This mall belongs to Winter Group. I’m Raine Winter. If you keep blocking me, I’ll have your badge by noon.

The guards stiffened, panicked. Raine seized the chance and pulled Aella past them.

Come on,she said. Let’s check out the shoe store on the third floor.”

They stepped out of the elevator-

And froze.

Tyrone was kneeling in front of another woman, carefully helping her try on shoes.

The woman’s head was bowed, her hair falling across her face. But Aella didn’t need to see it clearly.

She knew.

Tyrone’s movements were gentle, patient, intimate.

Her chest clenched painfully. Her whole body went cold.

There was only one woman Tyrone would kneel for like thatZera.

So when he said he’d stay somewhere else, this was what he meant.

Aella and Tyrone had been married for three years.

And in all that time, he’d never even passed her a pair of slippers.

The sight hit her so hard she forgot to breathe. She just stood there, frozen, humiliated.

Aella!Raine grabbed her before she could stumble. Fury blazed in her eyes.

Aella shook her head, gripping her sister’s arm. Don’t. Please.”

She couldn’t make a scene.

Her parents were still in the hospital. Tyrone’s reputation would crash if word got out.

But Raine had had enough. We saw this by accident, right? I didn’t go spreading rumors. He has no right to cut my allowance now.

Before Aella could stop her, Raine yanked free, swung her purse, and hurled it straight at Zera.

You homewrecking tramp!she yelled, lunging forward.

Aella ran after her.

Tyrone reacted instantlyhe shoved Raine into a fitting room and slammed the door.

Then he turned on Aella, eyes cold and sharp.
