From Mob Princess to Mugshot Photographer novel Chapter 129

**Chapter 6**

The atmosphere in the dimly lit room was thick with tension as the men exchanged glances, their bodies trembling with fear, too paralyzed to utter a single word.

They weren’t naïve; they understood the gravity of their silence. Any attempt to articulate their thoughts could shatter their futures into irreparable fragments.

Garrett, a figure of authority, pierced through their facade with a single, penetrating gaze. The bodyguards stationed behind him shifted, ready to enforce his will.

One by one, the men were brought to their knees, the weight of their terror manifesting in desperate pleas for mercy. Blood streamed from the face of one unfortunate soul, his cries echoing in the oppressive silence.

“We were just doing a practice run! Training… that’s all it was…” he stammered, his voice laced with panic.

Garrett froze, his jaw tightening as the word “training” reverberated in his mind. It was a chilling echo that sent a shiver down his spine.

“Who was the woman on that table?” he demanded, his voice low and menacing.

The men shook their heads, desperation etched across their features. Some were sobbing uncontrollably, their breaths coming in ragged gasps.

“We don’t know! We were just told to come! We don’t even know who she was! Please!”

“Yeah, we honestly don’t know anything. Just let us go…”

Garrett’s cold stare bore into them, unyielding.

His gaze suddenly fixated on one individual, a glimmer of accusation in his eyes. “You just claimed the person on the operating table was also a doctor?”

The man’s body trembled violently as fear coursed through him. He opened his mouth to respond, but before he could utter a word, Melody burst into the room, her presence a stark contrast to the grim atmosphere.

She surveyed the scene, her heart racing as panic washed over her. Her complexion drained of color as she instinctively grasped Garrett’s hand, her voice trembling. “Garrett, what’s happening? Who are these people?”

Garrett cast a fleeting glance at the bodyguards. In an instant, the men were dragged away, their protests fading into the distance.

“It’s nothing significant. I just needed to ask them a few questions,” he replied, attempting to mask the turmoil brewing within him.

His eyes, dark and unreadable, met Melody’s. A nagging suspicion had already begun to take root in his mind, one he desperately wished wasn’t true.

An hour later, the bodyguard who had conducted the questioning returned, his expression grave. He opened his mouth to speak, but just then, the assistant’s call cut through the tension like a knife.

“Mr. Hale, I have information regarding the situation. Miss Winters ordered the guards to harm Mrs. Hale.”
