From Neglected Wife to CEO’s Obsession novel Chapter 194

Three days after I got back from the capital, Mike showed up at my office with a pile of paperwork for me to sign.

Remy had transferred most of his properties into my name. He even texted me to make sure I knew these were places Julia had never touched, totally clean.

Kailynn went to the hospital to visit a friend and happened to run into Remy and his mom. She took a photo of them and sent it to me.

In the picture, Remy was standing by the window, a cigarette dangling between his fingers. His face was half-hidden behind a swirl of smoke, eyes dull and lifeless. He looked so thin it was almost scary, his expression empty and worn out.

Marissa looked bad too. She’d lost so much weight, her eyes sunken and bloodshot. There was a huge bruise in the crook of her arm—probably from a blood test nobody bothered to take care of.

Their hospital gowns hung off their bodies like they were just clothes on sticks, no energy or life left in them.

Marissa was almost unrecognizable. Gone was the fancy jewelry, the expensive dresses stretched tight over her curves. She looked just like any other old lady you’d see in the park at sunset doing her little exercises.

Actually, there was one difference.

Those women always have happy smiles on their faces. Marissa’s face was nothing but bitterness and regret.

Honestly, after everything they’d done, they had this coming.

But what I really wanted to know was, with Remy and Marissa both in the hospital, where was Cindy? Was she alright? Was she safe?

And Julia—this mysterious woman full of secrets—how was she doing?

When I mentioned this to Kailynn, she went off on me. She said if I had so much time to worry, she was going to drag me out of the country for a vacation. According to her, the northern lights in Iceland were super romantic right now—perfect for healing a broken heart.

But I was still tied down at work, the ever-dependable workhorse. Maybe later, I told her.

That afternoon, after the photos and Kailynn’s rant, two of Thompson Corporation’s biggest shareholders called me. They danced around the real questions, trying to figure out if Remy and I were still married, how his health was, and, most importantly, if Thompson Corporation had any hope of bouncing back.

These guys had made a fortune with Remy over the years. Now that things were falling apart, they were the first to look for a way out.
