Chapter 210
Midnight is front and center now. I’m at a loss for words after that. This is definitely something I should discuss with Knight. Right? Is this betrayal? Is that why he said it would end badly? Did he mean it would end badly for her? I sit back and overthink what he said, what she said. Because what she said is insane, and it seems like there is no room to argue,
“Pernicious sent over a list of those who were involved. They will all be at the meeting. If you are serious about keeping the position, you will have to address everyone yourself. The same way you did the last time. You have to be assertive. You have to take it. This is the only way they will ever understand who you’re supposed to be,” she breaks the silence,
“That’s not what I wanted.”
“What you want doesn’t matter anymore. You serve them now. Everything else will come in second. They are what Ayrie and Aizen are to you. You are the Alpha, the mother of everyone who looks to you for protection and guidance. Those who disobey are put in a time–out or sent away.
“The choice is now yours to make. Even if you have an elder system in place, they are here to remind you of our traditions, but nothing else. It’s beneficial for you to have this because you’re not familiar with the traditions. You need to learn them and pass them on to Aizen so he doesn’t need an elder system.
“You have to remember that what you are doing now will affect how he will run the pack later on. You must always lead by example. You can’t cry in front of them, but you can rage. You have to remind them of what you are. Every opportunity you get, take it.
“My father has been teaching you from his experiences. So has my brother. My mother is not an alpha. You are not a Luna. It’s different for Alpha Females. They view maternal instincts as a weakness that can be exploited, and so far, they have.
“Show them what that same maternal instinct can push you to do, why she–wolves can be ten times more dangerous than a male when provoked. You have my wolves at your disposal. You give the signal and they will do as you please. I won’t let anyone harm you.”
I take a couple of deep breaths and nod.
“What’s the signal?” I ask.
“One to move forward. Two to aim. Three to fire. Circle to round them up.” She lifts her hand, holding up two fingers, and waves them forward, demonstrating each movement. “Show me,” she orders. I mimic her movements. “Like you mean it, Phoebe.” She does it again. “Do it.” I do it again. “Good. Remember what each of them means. A mistake can cost you.”
“Okay,” I nod.
We arrive at the pack. Before I can reach for the handle to get out once she stops, she reaches over and pats my abdomen to make sure my vest is in place and protecting me appropriately.

I take a deep breath. Her scent settles the nerves I feel. It absolutely feels like it’s Knight adjusting my vest. It doesn’t always feel this way around her, but it does at the moment. When she backs away, she sighs.
“Are you sure you don’t just want to be Nate’s mate? You’d still be the owner of Royal Threads,” she says. “It would give us peace of mind.”

Chapter 210
“You’re an alpha and the CEO of Knightly Enterprises,” I remind her.
“I’ve been training my entire life for it. I would die for this. It’s in my blood just as it is in my father’s and brothers. I don’t know anything else but this.”
“If you could choose, would you give it up?”
“Yes,” she answers without hesitation. “I would have wanted to be a daughter, a sister, and a proper mate. This life takes the part of us that makes us truly beautiful. I wouldn’t want that for you.”
She sits back and reaches for the door. I place my hand on her arm. She looks down at it and then up at me.
-Choose her.- Midnight’s voice echoes in my head. -For me. For us. It’s all she needs.-
“I can make you a deal. I hear you like a good proposition. We have that in common.”
“I don’t want nor do I need your money,”
“That’s not what I’m offering,” I shake my head. “I’d be willing to give this up. We can train Aizen and send him to that school in England when he’s ready. This pack will become a part of yours, and you could change things to your liking.”
“In exchange?” she asks, interested.
“I’ll teach you how to be a proper mate. My mate. You can have that. It’s a simple yes or no answer. I’ll stand down and let you and Knight protect me the way you want to as the owner of Royal Threads without resistance.”
She turns all the way to face me. Her eyes search mine as if I were trying to deceive her. Without a single word, she gets out of the car. She comes around and rips my door open. Her eyes are glowing red.
“Ansley!” I hear Knight shout. Her hand grips me around the mouth, and she pulls me close to her. “Let her go, Ans!”
“You said without resistance. You break that promise, and this is over,” she shoves me back. She spins around just as Knight gets to us.
Midnight takes over, and without thinking, I jump out of the car. I take her hand and spin her around to face me.
“This is never going to be over,” I growl.
With a single hard tug, her body smacks against mine, and my teeth sink into her neck. I shove her and she stumbles back, her eyes wide. Blood is dripping down her neck as she tries to stabilize her footing.
“You marked me,” she chokes out and then looks up at Knight.
“Don’t look at him. He has nothing to do with this. Without resistance. You have to make that same prom
