Chapter 211
Chapter 211
My heart is beating rapidly in my chest as we arrive at the packhouse. The omegas and Rin greet me with genuine relief. They hug me, and as soon as I’m within reach, Ophelia, the elder omega who runs the house, places her hand on my belly. She smiles brightly, and it honestly feels so good to see her relief.
“Are you all right, Sweetness? Where are the twins? They didn’t get hurt, did they?” she rushes out in a single breath.
“We’re okay,” I reassure her. “They’re with their grandma.”
“I’m so sorry,” Rin says quietly.
“Was anyone else hurt?” I ask.
“No, you were their only target. They knew it was their only chance. Your sister is a really good snoop,” she smiles and looks over at Perry, who nods in agreement.
“I need some privacy with my mate,” Knight tells everyone and grabs my arm. Perry snorts as he pulls me up the stairs toward our room.
I am in deep shit. Midnight knows well enough that she’s fully retreated. I can feel how nervous she is as well. This was her idea. I was fully prepared for Ansley’s rejection and then to take things slowly. I think we both panicked when she said it was over. Turns out I still don’t take rejection well.
“That’s betrayal, Midnight. You got me into this,” I whisper to her.
-You started it.- She shoots back, but does not attempt to stand with me here.
As soon as the door is shut behind us, I try to gather myself in order to get myself together. As soon as I turn around to face him, I’m surprised that he doesn’t seem to be raging mad. No cute crinkle in his nose, no glowing red eyes, and no shouting. He’s just looking at me.
“I’m sorry,” I blurt out. “I wasn’t thinking. I thought she was going to reject us, and we started talking, and things escalated when she grabbed me. Midnight saw an opening and she bit her. That’s not true, I wanted to bite her too. She was being mean to me and I-”
Knight grabs my head with both his hands and kisses me. Not knowing what to do, I kiss him back. His hands expertly slip under my hoodie, and he begins to remove the vest. My sweater flies off, and then there’s the loud thud of the vest hitting the floor. I didn’t realize how heavy it was until now.
“You have nothing to be sorry for,” he lifts me. He sits down, so I’m straddling him. “This is the way things are supposed to be. She’s just so stupid sometimes. I was afraid she was going to hurt you.”
“Why didn’t you just tell me?” I demand because this is something that should have been mentioned at some point in the past year.
“It’s not my place. I’ve done enough damage to her. It had to be her choice. I wanted you to figure it out eventually. I knew she would never say anything. Thank you,”
“Thank you? For what?”
“No one ever chooses her. It’s what I’ve been trying to prevent with Aizen. Why I wanted him to have this. Ayrie is always going to come first to everyone. She’s always going to take. That’s in our nature.”
“She was really mean to me.”
“She is really mean,” be laughs, rubbing my back under my t–shirt. “Things are going to change.”
“Right Ihod.
“I mean for all of us. Once she marks you, we’ll all be connected, and that will extend to the twins as well. She’ll bond with them the same way we do.”
“Like a third parent?” Is this really happening? Is he really okay with this?
“Yeah,” he nods with a smirk. “Ans can’t have kids of her own. You don’t have the equipment for that.”
“I thought you were going to be upset,” he did not just make a joke about me not having a penis. What an asshole.
“Not about this. Your business with her is your own. I think all I can do is wish you luck,” he grins. “If you think I’m difficult, you have no fucking idea.”
“Shut up. That’s my mate you’re talking about,” I jab him. He growls, pulling me closer. I rest my head on his shoulder, letting how excited and happy he is settle inside of me because I’m terrified. “Why are you so excited about this?”
“If anyone can teach our son to be the alpha he’s meant to be, it’s her. With Ansley on our side, nothing is ever going to hurt them again. This is the way things are meant to be,” he holds me tighter. “A part of me wanted to keep you to myself. The part of me that wants to keep her below me. The more I saw you struggle, the less that urge became. Everything that’s been missing. She can give you. I knew I was never going to be enough.”
