I stop at the bottom of the stairs. Ansley is standing there with all of the betas that have wanted Allison out of the barracks lined up behind her, holding those who were involved in the attack on their knees in front of them.
“Oh, shit,” Knight says from beside me.
My eyes come back to hers. We stare at one another for a moment before she bows her head and turns around to face everyone. She holds her hand out for me. Everyone watches as I walk over to her and take it.
“You all wanted my mate out of your pack because she broke tradition,” she tells them. A sinister laughter from our left makes me look over at Mr. Knightly, who is beaming with pride. I shake my head, trying to prepare myself for what I think she might do. “Yesterday, at two fifty- eight p.m., you all tried to have her assassinated in front of her pups. In front of all the pups who have welcomed them into their school and home.
“admire your loyalty to tradition. I am familiar with pack tradition from the Neo–Awakening era to the early Battle Wolf centuries. Correct me if I am wrong, but it is Blue Shore tradition to present the heir of the pack with a gift worthy of them when their mate is revealed.”
“That is correct, Alpha Knightly,” some of the betas call out.
“Great,” she turns to me and reaches for my other hand. “In honor of tradition, Phoebe. And the promise I made you. I henceforth declare the new branch of Knightly Enterprises. Sealed with the heads of those who tried to hurt you.”
“With what?” I choke out.
I scream when her betas move forward, and without a second thought, blood and dismembered bodies fall to the clean floor. The betas all step forward with a head held out towards me. Knight pinches the bridge of his nose and shakes his head. Perry is trying her best not to fall over laughing. Mr. Knightly has a massive grin on his face.
When I look back at her, I can see the dry blood on her neck where we marked her. Midnight is swooning. Delighted with the gift she has presented us with. The scent of blood and fear in the air is making my mouth water, and all she can think of is liver bits to share with her
mates.
“Without resistance,” she mouths.
“Thank you,” I say and look over at Justin Calihan. He takes a deep breath and tries to step away from Rin. She kicks his leg out and grips him by the hair. “We missed one.”
I put my hand up to stop her when she tries to wave someone over. I step over the blood puddle in front of me and excuse myself as I make my way through the wall of betas holding up heads. I crouch down in front of Justin and sigh. Jason, the beta we all wanted to take Allison’s place steps on his hand when he tries to move away.
“You’re the reason why Allison is dead. I want you to know that you are probably the worst mate in existence, and I say that while I am mated to probably the biggest assholes in modern history.”
“You’re a fucking abomination,” he growls lowly.
“You know,” Haugh. “That is not the first time I’ve heard that. I’ve tried really hard not to be, but here we are,” I shrug. “You and all the hate you passed on to all these innocent people you preyed on just killed the little bit of fucks I gave about anyone outside of myself and my family.”
Midnight surges forward. My claws extend, and before I can think, I swing forward, slamming him into the puddle of blood left behind by Allison’s body. She roars as she uses her entire force. He cries out as I push down. His skull breaking apart echoes in the high ceiling. His blood bursts out of his mouth, nose, and ears. His eyeballs pop out. I stand up and shake the blood off my hand.

Chapter 212
“I don’t know about you guys, but that shit gave me the chills,” Perry snorts.
“The pups will be here with this King in two hours. This better be spotless when they arrive,” Ansley says. “Carmen, this is your domain now. You are to shadow your Luna and assist her with anything she requires. That includes all pack requirements, training, and babysitting. Are we
understood?”
“Alpha,” Carmen takes a knee, bowing her head lowly.
“You didn’t fuck her, did you?” I ask.
“She’s straight and a little on the small side,” she says, looking me over subjectively.
“Cool,” I turn to Knight. “That’s how you get a shadow approved.”
“You’re never going to let that go,” he groans.
“Never,” I clear my throat.
“Oh, that reminds me,” Ansley says and waves someone over. They bring a cooler over, and the guy opens it for me. Knight and I lean forward to see Amy’s head in there. “Are you pleased?”
“Am I pleased?” I look up at her.
“With your gifts,” she wedges herself between Knight and me. He growls at her, but she pays him no mind.
“Yes, I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be presented with the freshly cut heads of my enemies. Classic,” I press my lips together. “Do you mind if the three of us talk? In my study.”
“Of course,” she waves at Carmen to take over and stands back to let me lead the way.
I try to get the blood off my boots, and when I get to the stairs, I remove them so I don’t trail it up the stairs. Knight picks me up and carries me to the study. He sets me down on the sofa and sits across from me. Ansley sits down beside him after shutting the door.
Seeing the two of them sitting side by side, I can’t help but think of Ayrie and Aizen. How much the two of them resemble them. She’s appropriately seated, trying to be as far away from him as possible. Knight is sitting carelessly, leaning away from her.
“This is crazy,” I admit. “I never made the connection, but it’s like looking at two older versions of the twins.”
“They’re Knightlys,” the two of them say in unison, and I smile.
