Harry always watched Caroline with a half–smile while she and Jonathan were dating.

Caroline remembered how, in her last life, Harry almost caused her breakup with Jonathan.
One night at a Lowlands party, she’d had too much to drink and lay down in the back seat of Jonathan’s car. She wasn’t asleep.
She overheard a conversation between Jonathan and Harry in the front.
Harry said Caroline was an orphan and didn’t deserve someone from the Lowlands, even if she was pretty.
Jonathan said girls like Caroline were easy to control.
Caroline broke up with Jonathan then. Jonathan begged and lied, saying he only meant that Caroline was obedient. He bought her gifts and convinced her to take him back.
Love had blinded her. Later, she saw how foolish she had been.
Caroline thought Harry was clever, arrogant, and sharp–more so than Jonathan. She later learned Harry had known she hadn’t been asleep that night. He liked to stir up trouble for fun. He had no serious reason–he just enjoyed causing messes.
Harry’s character was awful. Caroline never liked him.
This life, when Harry spoke again, she frowned and put her hand on the knife in her pocket.
As Harry leaned down to light a cigarette, Caroline suddenly lunged forward.
“Damn!” Harry yelled and stumbled back.
Niko moved to step in, but Tyler stopped him. A few soldiers started forward, but Kay and Raven stood in front to block them.
At that moment, one jeep’s door flew open, and several big men blocked Harry from behind. Caroline’s knife was knocked aside.
She looked at those men and realized she had seen them before. They were some of the people Patricia had brought earlier. One of them was Gaylord.
Caroline glanced at Tyler. He showed no reaction, as if none of this was his concern.

“Ca… Caroline, we can talk,” Harry called from behind Gaylord, trying to sound friendly.
“Harry, I have nothing to do with Jonathan. I broke off our engagement before the apocalypse,” Caroline said, folding her arms.
“Fine. Jonathan’s dead anyway,” Harry shrugged. “From now on, I’ll call you Ms. Sinclair, like Captain Richter does.” He sounded like he was being helpful.
Caroline looked at Kay and Tyler, who had blocked Niko. She nodded slightly. Kay and Tyler came to stand with her.
Niko stepped forward with a sour face and a sigh. “Ms. Sinclair, I didn’t expect to meet you under these circumstances.”
Caroline forced a polite smile. “Captain Richter, shouldn’t you ask us residents before you take over our building for a shelter?”
At that moment, Caroline heard footsteps behind her. She turned and saw more people from the building coming down the stairs.
Leading them was a boy named Zach. They had stayed upstairs earlier to plan. They had taken part in raiding Erica’s apartment and had indirectly caused Charlie’s death. When they heard the government was coming, they were scared and gathered to decide what to do.
But seeing the scene outside, they realized it was the apocalypse now. Many people were already dead. They had nothing left to fear. After talking, they stepped outside.
Zach walked forward and looked at Niko. “Are you in charge? If you take our building as a shelter, will you give us something? If you pay, we’ll agree.”
Standing opposite Caroline were Zach, Fiona Acosta, the wife of Wayne, and two young couples. The four of them were clearly a group.
Niko glanced at Caroline’s small group, then smiled at Zach and the others. “You must have had a rough time. Once this place is made into a shelter, the government will run it and set it up as a base. We’ll assign work and provide food to keep everyone safe.”
Hearing that, smiles appeared on Zach’s face and the others!
“Can we still stay in our current rooms?” someone asked.
Niko nodded. “I can guarantee the places you live now won’t be taken by the government. You can keep living there.”
