Chapter 167 Meeting Nathaniel
“Go ahead, let’s hear it.”

Niko nodded, but he still felt that Caroline’s expression was hiding something.

“I also have a few hidden warehouse addresses. They could really help your military with future rescue missions. But … what can you offer us in exchange?”
Caroline was talking about a few warehouse locations she got from Big Bro Supreme’s office.
Those locations were too far for her to check right now.
When the great heat comes, more buildings will collapse.
The permafrost will melt, and floods will return.
By then, those warehouses might not even hold up.
Better to sell them to the military and get some benefits for herself.
Of course, she planned to collect the closer ones later.
So, in the end, she could only sell the three that were dozens of miles away.
Niko’s eyes lit up a little, but he quickly controlled his excitement. “First, I need to verify these warehouses. Also, if there really is a large amount of supplies, I’ll have to check with my superiors about how we can work together.”
“Sure. I’ll wait for your message.”
The negotiation ended there.
Niko even thanked Caroline for the remedy she gave them, saying it unexpectedly saved Nathaniel.
Caroline shrugged, “Maybe it was just a coincidence.”
Niko also thought it might be a coincidence.
After all, he had used that colorless, tasteless “remedy” on his own soldiers.

Their wounds healed, but not very quickly.
So he didn’t think much of it.
Actually, Caroline had diluted the spring water to an extremely thin solution.
She didn’t know what disease Nathaniel had, yet even that weak solution helped him.
Talk about a lucky break.
As they finished talking and prepared to leave, someone reported from below,
“Commander Ball is here!”
Nathaniel had trouble walking, so everyone went downstairs.
He had reached a room that had been cleared out, with a small fire lit by a soldier.

Caroline saw Nathaniel sitting straight in the chair, his back rigid, radiating authority. Her first thought was that he had a very upright presence.
Second thought, he reminded her of her grandfather, Lance Sinclair.
Lance had been a battalion–level officer but retired early due to health.
He was a strict, dignified man.
Later, his health worsened, and he died young.
Caroline remembered Lance liked to sit in a chair, holding a cane, looking into the distance— just like Nathaniel.
Unexpectedly, Nathaniel’s first words were, “You’re Caroline? Lance Sinclair’s granddaughter?”
Caroline froze.
Then she saw a small smile on the old man’s face. “I was one of his soldiers. He was my old squad leader.”
After a few words, Caroline learned Nathaniel was three years younger than her grandfather. He was brought into the army by him.
Lance retired early due to injuries, but Nathaniel stayed in the army and eventually became a commander.

“You really do look a lot like your grandpa.”
Nathaniel smiled and patted Caroline’s shoulder.
After some casual talk, Nathaniel waved, and two veterans brought in a small chest.
It wasn’t big, but inside were half a box of oranges and a pork leg.

“Your medicine saved my life. I looked all over at home, and this is the best I could find to say thanks.”
Nathaniel smiled.
Caroline shook her head.
In the apocalypse, these were precious, especially the oranges, rich in vitamin C, preventing
scurvy.
She remembered that many people in the previous disaster survived the initial catastrophe but died later from scurvy due to a lack of fruits and vegetables.
Nathaniel’s gift showed thoughtfulness.
“Thank you.”
Caroline smiled.
Through the conversation, Caroline also learned about Nathaniel’s previous injuries.
He had been attacked by mutant animals, with serious wounds.
At first, he didn’t trust Caroline’s water and tested it on an injured animal. It worked, so he used it on himself.
Unexpectedly, it truly healed his wounds.
“Actually, I came today to ask if you still have that medicine. You might not know, but our soldiers are fighting a group of mutant creatures, and many of them are seriously injured. If we could use this medicine in bulk, it could save many lives. I remember your grandmother was a famous alternative medicine practitioner, right?”
