Chapter 202 The Night Mission

Tyler gave Caroline a sly smile. Ms. Sinclair, don’t you think you’re selling yourself short by calling yourself an ordinary person?

Caroline looked at him and didn’t bother answering. She just waited.

Tyler’s grin slowly widened,

Caroline could feel her pulse quicken a little. She was nervous.

After a pause, he finally said, I’ll go in, take out the targets, and set the explosives. When the time comes, you help me get Denton out. That’s all you need to do.

Caroline let out a quiet breath of relief at his demand.

She’d been worried he might ask her to sneak inside and plant the bombs herself.

Caroline was already planning how to refuse if he did.

Ms. Sinclair,Tyler said with a small chuckle, you’re capable, but I’d rather not see you risk your life.

He didn’t take his eyes off her, clearly amused by her subtle relief.

Caroline rolled her eyes inwardly. You’ve got to be kidding me. You made it sound all dramatic and kept a straight face the whole time, and in the end, it’s just about picking someone up? You did that on purposejust to see my reaction, didn’t you?

I want that pack, she said, pointing at the bundle of explosives in his hand.

Tyler nodded right away. Deal.

She hadn’t expected him to agree without hesitation.

Maybe he had more weapons than he could use, or maybe that Denton really meant a lot to him.

Their plan settled. Caroline noticed the first light of morning creeping through the window. She remembered Neville’s dying words about a hidden supply stash.

It would be smart to check it early.

She finished the instant noodles Tyler gave her. Caroline didn’t hold back with the can of

luncheon meat.

To be polite, she handed him one of her energy bars.

Tyler ate it without complaint, swallowing it in a few bites.

After they finished their meal, they packed their things and got ready to leave.

At the door, Caroline was about to say goodbye, but she paused, turned around, and said, Mr. Lowland, since it’s just picking someone up, taking all these explosives feels like too much. I know a place with supplies. Want to come along?

Caroline had her reasons for saying that. First, it was just a rescue mission; taking all those heavy weapons from him over something trivial felt over the top. She didn’t want to owe Tyler anything.

Secondly, she had just killed those people. When she was talking to Neville, Tyler had probably seen everything.

There was a good chance he’d noticed her asking about the supply stash.

So, instead of pretending nothing happened, she figured it was better to bring him along. Maybe test what kind of man he really was.

But Tyler didn’t answer her question. Instead, he said, Ms. Sinclair, we’ve known each other for a few months now. You can call me Tyler.

Caroline thought that was fair and nodded.

Then I’ll call you Caroline,Tyler added.

She didn’t mind.

You killed those men. Those supplies have nothing to do with me. I’ll pass.

And just like that, Caroline and Tyler went their separate ways.

Before they parted, Tyler told Caroline, Tomorrow night, we move.

He also promised to send that bundle of explosives back to her apartment.

Caroline didn’t argue.

She thought that was smart of him. At least he wasn’t trying to drag her along to the supply point.

But what she didn’t know was that the moment she headed toward the place Neville had described, Tyler quietly followed.

He watched her slim figure glide across the frozen street, Raven trotting beside her, snow flying up behind them. His brows drew together. The memory of the blood on Caroline’s coat and the stash of weapons Neville had shown earlier made him uneasy.

Caroline, unaware of being followed, skated through the icy wind for about an hour before the sun began to rise faintly through the storm. Finally, she reached the location Neville had mentioned.

Two mountain villas.

Unlike the government shelters, these ones looked private and wellkept. There were only two. Neville’s group had taken them both.

Caroline quietly took off her ice skates and slipped on her snow boots. With Raven at her side, she crept around to the back.

The snow around the villas had been recently cleared, meaning people were still living there. Each step sank quietly into the soft ground, barely making a sound.

But then she noticed something elsethere were lights on inside both villas.

Neville had said their supplies were all stored on the first floor, while the second floor was for living.

Yet now, lights shone from the firstfloor windows too. That could only mean one thing- guards.

She hid behind a snowcovered wall, trying to come up with a plan. A man suddenly walked out from the villa on the left.
