Chapter 206 The Little White Pup

Caroline frowned in confusion. Huh? What’s wrong with Raven?

Tyler crouched down and placed the baby in his arms right in front of Raven.

Caroline finally saw it clearly. It wasn’t a baby. It was a snowwhite puppy!

It looked about three months old, tiny and fluffy, with soft fur that made it almost too adorable to handle.

You wrapped a dog in a baby blanket?!Caroline said through clenched teeth.

Then she met Tyler’s eyes. Caroline realized he was doing it on purpose. Payback. He was getting back at her for laughing at him earlier.

Well, maybe she did laugh too loudly.

I’m keeping this little puppy,Tyler said, putting the pup down in front of Raven.

Raven wagged his tail and licked the puppy’s face a few times.

Caroline noticed that the puppy seemed to like Raven just as much. It whimpered and made tiny sounds, as if the two were having their own little conversation.

Probably thought the puppy’s too small,Tyler teased casually. Raise the puppy a bit before, you know, eating him.

He tossed aside the blanket that had been wrapped around the puppy and set the tiny thing down on the ground. Then he went back into the villa and dragged out another load of supplies.

Leave the rest for the women inside,he said.

Caroline watched as Tyler brought out bags of rice and flour, bottles of oil, and two boxes of spicy chili sauce.

He also carried out a few guns and some ammo.

She pointed toward the pile she had stacked by the door of the other house. I’m just taking these.

He nodded. They didn’t need to say more. Together, they pulled out the modified truck parked behind the villaNeville’s old rideand loaded everything onto it. With the little puppy

tucked safely inside, they got ready to leave.

Before climbing in, Caroline glanced back at the villa.

A group of young women peeked out from the windows. There were eight of them, all around

the same age.

Now that Neville and his men were gone, they were finally free. The villas were theirs to stay.

But later on, whether they could keep the place and stop others from taking it was a challenge.

Maybe they’d figure out their own way to survive. Either way, it was no longer Caroline’s

concern.

She and Tyler drove off toward the apartment.

Halfway there, Tyler stopped to grab the explosives he’d hidden earlier and loaded them onto the truck.

They didn’t talk much during the ride.

In the backseat, Raven and the puppy were a noisy pairlicking, biting, and tumbling all over each other like playful kids.

Caroline couldn’t help glancing back again and again. The puppy really was adorable. Except for its slightly sharp face and thick, clumsy tailit looked a bit out of proportion, but somehow that made it even cuter.

What are you going to name the puppy?she asked.

Snow,Tyler answered without even thinking.

Snow?Caroline glanced at Raven beside her. Snow and Raventhat actually sounds kind of nice together.

Tyler’s eyes flickered with a faint smile she didn’t notice. Yeah. It does.”

By the time they got back to the apartment, daylight had already broken. They were just about

to carry down the bags of weapons when a teasing voice came from ahead.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. Well, it looks like someone’s living the good life.”

Caroline froze midmove.

Tyler immediately pressed a hand over hers.

His palm was warm against her skin.

Without saying a word, Caroline slid the bag back inside, hiding it from view. Finally, she slowly turned toward the sound.

Standing there was a man dressed in a ridiculous mess of colors, his whole look practically screaming troublemaker. It was Harry.

Next to him stood a burly man.

Caroline recognized him right away. It was Gaylord, the one who used to follow Patricia around.

But what caught her off guard was the tall woman beside Gaylord.

In the middle of winter, she was wearing much less than anyone else, her outfit designed to show off every curve of her body.

Her bright red lipstick glistened even in the cold air.

When her gaze met Caroline’s, the woman smiled softly. Caroline. Long time no see.

It was Erica.

The three of them standing there made it clear. They hadn’t come with good intentions.

Caroline turned to face Erica, sarcasm curling at the corner of her mouth. Haven’t seen you in a few days. Already switched to a new man?

Erica didn’t seem offended at all. She walked up to Gaylord and gently wrapped her arm around his.

Resting her head against his shoulder, she gave a faint, pitying smile. Caroline, she said sweetly, not every woman’s as lucky as you. You had the foresight to prepare before everything went down. Now, months into the apocalypse, you’ve still got meat and electricity at home. For the rest of us ordinary women, finding someone reliable to depend on isn’t easy. You don’t have to make things harder for us, do you?
