Caroline raised an eyebrow. She’d been waiting for Francis to bring this up.

“Yeah, I know a place with machines, but … ”

It had been a while, and the recent snow probably covered it.

They’d need to dig it out.

Tyler had also mentioned knowing about a factory. They could all go together and sell whatever they got to the army.

Francis slapped his thigh. “Perfect! Let’s go this afternoon. You just got back; you need some rest first.”

Caroline thought Francis was thoughtful. He knew she needed rest. If he had dragged her along right then, she would have been dead on her feet.

So she headed back to the 66th floor. When she arrived, she made sure to knock on Tyler’s door and pass along a message from Francis that they were going out that afternoon.

When Tyler saw Francis had come, he frowned at Caroline’s hand for a long moment before finally just saying, “Okay.”

Caroline didn’t know what his look meant and didn’t dwell on it. She just headed home with Raven, who was already starving.

At home, she was greeted by tearful Jet rushing into her arms.

Caroline finally realized, Wow, in just one night, Jet’s injuries were all healed? And he can fly now!

The chubby bird snuggled into her arms, whining, “Human, where’ve you been? I could fly two hours ago!”

Talk about perfect timing.

While Jet chattered on, Caroline quickly started filling Raven’s big bowl with food.

Chicken breast, beef, dog food, dog treats, even dog cornbread.

After about three rounds, Raven finally let out a full, satisfied burp and flopped on the floor. He was full.

Caroline counted the food–he’d used a lot of abilities, but Raven ate about the same as usual, which made her feel relieved.

Just then, someone knocked at the door.

Jet perked up and flapped excitedly. “Silver! Silver! Silver!”

Caroline didn’t get what he meant, but she still carried him to answer the door.

Right before she got there, Jet suddenly went quiet, sitting calmly in her arms.

When she opened the door, she saw Denton’s sunny, handsome face. “Caroline! Tyler said you’re back. Maybe you haven’t cooked yet, so I brought something. Tyler said you like my roasted chicken. I just made it this morning, really juicy and flavorful. I’ve been waiting for you! Tyler also said we’re going out this afternoon. Don’t forget to take me along, okay?”
