By now, it had been the tenth day of the coldest stretch.
Just a few more days, and it should finally start to ease up.
After saying goodbye to Francis, the group made their way back to the 66th floor.
Caroline was about to head inside when Tyler called out to her.
What he said next made her raise an eyebrow.
“Wanna go do something big later?”
Tomorrow at noon, the people from Building B were scheduled to arrive.

The meeting was set for noon because their boss had bad knees, midday was the warmest time, and the only window he could handle the cold.
As planned, Tyler and Denton were going to explore Building B around that time, while Caroline would stay back with Francis to meet with the boss from building B.
So when Tyler said “something big,” he wasn’t talking about Building B—he meant a run out to a coal yard in the distance. He wanted Caroline to come along.
Not just the coal yard. According to Tyler, there was also a leather factory nearby, probably full of animal hides.
His plan was to haul back a load of leather to line the interior walls of their place–something to help insulate against the brutal cold.
And that wasn’t all. There was supposedly a large shopping mall in the area too, worth checking out for anything usable.
None of this, on its own, was enough to tempt Caroline.
It was freezing, and she really just wanted to stay curled up indoors. She’d already gone out once earlier that day, stepping back out now felt like suicide.
What did catch her interest was something else Tyler pointed to on the map. There, near the mall, was a stone market.
The kind that sold decorative and rare stones.

Chapter 308 Jet Is Disappointed

Word was, just before the apocalypse, this place had gathered stone dealers and collectors from all over the country, getting ready for a massive gem and mineral expo.
But the world had ended before the event even began. The stones had just arrived and were still displayed in the showrooms when everything went to hell.
Now, all of it was still sitting there.
Caroline saw an opportunity. If she got lucky, maybe she’d find a stone that could upgrade her storage space.
That was what changed her mind.
Sure, she could go by herself another day, but the location was out of the way, and she’d never been there before the world fell apart.
Tyler, on the other hand, had an uncanny memory, like a living GPS. With him, they could avoid wasting time or taking dangerous detours.
They agreed to go. The plan was to head home for the next three hours to rest, eat, and prep gear–then meet back downstairs for the trip.
After Caroline got home, she treated herself to a hearty meal, fed her two little companions until they were stuffed, and then pulled out her most effective way to relax–soaking in spring
water.
She dozed off in the bath, half–submerged in warm comfort.
When her three–hour alarm finally went off, she felt totally refreshed, as if she could stay up all night and not even blink.
She got dressed, grabbed Raven and Jet, and headed out.
But the moment they stepped outside, Jet glanced around, scanning the area. No sign of Silver. Not even Denton. The disappointment was written all over his little face.
Caroline noticed and asked, “Denton’s not coming with us?”
“He’s busy trying to figure out how to control the rats. Said he’ll sit this one out,” Tyler replied.
Caroline nodded slightly. Made sense.
But Jet tapped her shoulder with his paw, delivering a very clear message, “Human, your baby is disappointed.”

Chapter 308 Jet Is Disappointed
What Caroline didn’t expect was that Snow had come along too.
And somehow… she’d doubled in size.
She wasn’t quite as big as Raven, but she definitely looked like a full–sized dog now.
Her eyes were sharp, and her whole demeanor carried an unmistakable pride.
