Chapter 351: Fire and Fury
This group wasn’t just a random gang of thugs—one of them wielded the power of fire. His laughter was wild, almost unhinged, as he extended his fingers forward. Flames erupted like a relentless blowtorch, aiming directly at Handsy.
Handsy was enormous, far too large to move easily within the cramped confines of the house. He swung his massive, leafy arms in frustration, but several men quickly restrained him, holding him firmly in place.
Meanwhile, two others brandished saws, hacking deeply into his thick branches.
A sharp crack sounded as one branch split apart.
“Hahaha! Do you think it even feels pain?” one of the men sneered, amusement dripping from his voice.
“It’s dumb! I tried to save that guy earlier. Guess it actually has feelings, huh? I wonder if it’ll still feel anything once we chop it into pieces,” another mocked.
“It’s just a stupid tree! Let’s cut it up and use it for firewood. Hahaha!” Their cruel laughter echoed through the room, filling the air with a chilling sense of menace.
Suddenly, the door burst open with a kick. Caroline stepped inside, and all the men turned toward her. None of them showed fear—only excitement.
Someone had just rushed down from the upper floors, shouting that people on the 66th floor had awakened abilities as well.
Instead of dread, this news electrified them.
So what if a few people upstairs had powers?
There were only three of them up there. Even counting the slow-moving tree and the scrawny man in the white coat, that made only five.
Oh, and a dog.
But really, what was a dog compared to someone with abilities?
Among those four humans, how many could truly wield powers?
And even if they all did—so what? Every single one of the fifteen men in their group had abilities!
Just earlier, they had taken down two soldiers with powers without breaking a sweat.
“Hehe, Caroline, right?” the leader grinned, his shoulders hunched as he swaggered forward. His face was dirty, his worn-out padded coat torn in multiple places, but his confidence soared.
“Here’s the deal, sweetheart,” he said with a crooked smile. “I’m your future husband. Hand over all your supplies. Do that, and I’ll make sure my boys treat you right. From now on, I’ll treat you right.”
The moment his eyes landed on Caroline, his mood shifted. Well, would you look at that? Aren’t you a pretty one?
Before all this, he had been a scruffy nobody in the shelter—clothes filthy, hair unkempt, and a smell that made people turn away. No woman had ever glanced his way; just scraping enough food to survive was a daily struggle.
He had seen Caroline a few times back then. To him, she was like a goddess—beautiful, powerful, and completely out of his reach. He never even dared to dream about having her.
But now, everything was different. He had burned with fever all night and been thrown out of his room like trash. When he woke up, he discovered he could control air.
Yes, air. His newfound power was terrifying.
Within a ten-foot radius, he could manipulate every breath of air.
He could pull the air right out of someone’s lungs, choking them without even touching them.
