The school’s mailroom was packed with mountains of food deliveries. Clearly, plenty of students had been reading doomsday posts online and started preparing for the worst.

When Caroline opened Instagram, she noticed something unusual. Zoe, who rarely posted anything, had just shared nine photos

online.

Every photo showed piles of food and winter clothes stacked sky–high.

Zoe’s caption read, “Who bought all this for me? Show yourself!”

Caroline smiled softly. The fact that Zoe had received the supplies made her feel relieved.

Zoe had helped her once, so Caroline had secretly ordered a big shipment of survival supplies and sent it to Zoe’s dorm as a thank-

you.

But the moment she saw that Instagram post, Caroline messaged her right away. “You should delete your post and hide everything. Don’t let anyone know you’ve got those supplies. Everyone’s talking about the apocalypse lately; you never know what might happen next.”

Zoe replied in seconds, “Was that you who bought it?”

Caroline didn’t answer. But after a moment, she saw that Zoe had deleted the post.

A few minutes later, Zoe called her.

When Caroline picked up, Zoe went straight to the point.

“I’ll send everything back,” she said. “I can’t accept that much stuff from you.”

Caroline sighed. Kids in school were still too innocent.

She already had plenty of ingredients stored in her storage space. Since she had time, she decided to cook fresh batches following the recipes she had written down. Each meal went neatly into airtight containers.

When the corn was done steaming, she placed it right next to every box. Each box held a perfect mix of meat and vegetables–just enough for one meal.

When she wasn’t cooking, Caroline spent her time playing and exercising with Raven.

When they went to see dermatologists, doctors said the skin damage looked like mild acid burns.

The doomsday rumors grew even louder.

Caroline looked out her living room window and saw a big shopping mall nearby. The parking lot was packed. People were pushing carts loaded with groceries, rushing to stock up.

Online, raincoats were selling out everywhere. Some stores had already run out completely.

Caroline sighed. She grabbed Raven’s leash and went for another walk.
