**Doomsday Rebirth 423**

**Chapter 423: Setting Off**

As Caroline sat there, a thought began to nag at her mind. Was it possible that the reason Nelson’s hair had never made a comeback was due to his incessant habit of rubbing his bald head? The image of him absentmindedly smoothing over his scalp brought a small smile to her face, even in the tension of their current situation.

“Oh, right! Tonight, we’re going to dismantle that plague-spreading organization,” she declared, her voice steady as she laid out her plan. “I’m thinking of treating everyone to some spring water tomorrow. It’ll be a nice way to celebrate.”

The moment those words left her lips, she could see Nelson’s eyes light up with excitement. “Awesome! But I’m not going to tag along to smash some lousy organization. Can I just drink the spirit spring water right now?” His eagerness was palpable, and Caroline hadn’t anticipated his impatience.

She cast a glance at Shane, who was still deep in slumber, and a flicker of concern crossed her mind. “Is it really okay to just leave that guy there?” she asked, uncertainty creeping into her tone.

At the sound of her words, Nelson sprang into action, darting over to grab a syringe. “No problem! I’ll give him a shot,” he declared confidently.

Caroline inhaled sharply, a sudden wave of sympathy washing over her for Shane. Despite his past actions, he was still a person, and the thought of injecting him with something made her stomach churn.

Under Nelson’s enthusiastic insistence, Caroline reluctantly brought out the spring water. After all, Nelson had already expressed his desire to “conduct various experiments,” so simply drinking it would hardly satisfy his curiosity.

He launched into a series of “spring water experiments,” trying everything he could think of—drinking it straight, bathing in it, mixing it with acid rain, and even attempting to drink it while submerged in the very same liquid. His enthusiasm was infectious, and soon he decided he needed multiple control groups for his experiments. He enlisted Snow, Silver, Denton, and Pinky to join him in this peculiar scientific endeavor.

With Silver and Snow preparing for their outing that evening, and Denton gearing up to join the fight, Nelson turned to Pinky, pulling her over as his first test subject.

Denton stood at the door, handing over the tiny creature with an exaggerated flourish. Pinky’s large, expressive eyes were filled with reluctance, and she trembled slightly in response to the unfolding chaos around her.

Nelson, sensing her fear, knelt down and gently stroked her little head. “Don’t be afraid, little one. The big gray wolf won’t come for you,” he whispered soothingly, though at that moment, Pinky regarded Nelson as if he were the very big gray wolf he had just mentioned.

As the evening wore on, Caroline made her way to Francis, seeking reassurance. “Can you have someone keep an eye on Nelson on the sixty-fifth floor?” she asked, her voice laced with concern.

Francis, ever the confident ally, thumped his chest with a grin. “Don’t worry! Nelson will be perfectly safe. You’re going to take down that plague-spreading organization, right? You’re doing it for the people! Plus, the chaos they caused at the base last time hurt so many. Your mission has my full support. I’ll send ten guys upstairs to guard the sixty-fifth floor like it’s Fort Knox!”

With a decisive wave of his hand, Francis summoned Alger and a dozen men to head to the sixty-fifth floor immediately. Caroline exhaled, feeling a wave of relief wash over her. Even if someone managed to escape during the operation and attempted to retaliate at Building A, Nelson should be secure.
