“So you’re the ones who messed with Ivor? I saw him earlier today, and he got totally screwed over! You guys are finished.”

The twin brothers were massive, each around six and a half feet tall, and they’d been staying in the building next door. They bumped into Ivor and his gang while scavenging for goods outside.

They got along instantly and decided to join forces for bigger hauls.

The twins already knew Ivor had a small crew in that building and a stash of supplies. He was living comfortably.

They wanted a share. Now was the time to prove their worth.

Ivor sneered. His brothers weren’t just brawn, they’d trained for real fights! Caroline, you damn woman, today’s the day you pay!

Caroline calmly pulled out the short blade from her pocket.

Raven sensed the danger to her master and moved up, right at Caroline’s side.

The sight of Raven made the twins falter briefly.

They glanced at each other, then pulled baseball bats from behind them.

At that moment, Tyler, who had been silent at the back, stepped in front of Caroline. “I’ll deal with this.”

He spoke so lightly, his expression unchanged.

Tyler had wanted to jump in earlier, but Caroline had acted first.

From behind her, he watched the slender girl wield her knife with sharp, precise movements, unfazed by towering men.

He actually thought she was impressive.

She didn’t use formal techniques; her skills were more raw like she had acquired them off the streets, but it showed she’d endured plenty. She never wavered, no matter the opponent.

It was like she had a warning wired inside her. Hesitation meant death.

Caroline hadn’t so much as looked his way since the fight began.

She moved like a lone wolf.

Tyler sighed inwardly. Did he really look that useless?

Still, he forced himself to step up.

“Tch, I was gonna take out that bitch first, then deal with you and the other eyesore. Didn’t think you’d butt in!”

One of the twins measured up Tyler, who was shorter and leaner, then charged him with the bat.

Caroline stepped aside, steadying the restless Raven.

Kay edged in next to Caroline, sticking close.

Caroline felt Kay trembling badly, but she stayed quiet, only tightening her grip on the golf club she’d taken from the sports store.

Caroline was just thinking how fast Kay had toughened up in the apocalypse when a scream of pain suddenly rang out right in front!

Tyler lunged forward barehanded, wild and feral.

He crouched low and delivered two lightning punches under the ribs of each twin.

They had no chance to react.

Tyler then swung his arms outward, slamming them both to the ground.

“Damn bastard!”

“I’ll kill you!”

Tyler’s face twisted with scorn. He caught the swinging bat with one hand and clamped the guy’s wrist with the other.

“Arghhh!”

Without caring about the cries, Tyler lifted the bat and smashed it onto the man’s skull.

One strike and the guy was down cold.

The second twin, seeing his brother fall, rushed him from behind.

Tyler assumed his stance, shoved himself off the ground, and flipped the man over using his legs and waist. He snatched the bat and hammered it down on his head, just as brutal.

The whole thing was over in seconds.

Caroline realized she hadn’t even tracked Tyler’s movements.

It was already finished.

For a brief moment, her expression darkened, and she studied Tyler with real wariness. This man was deadlier than she thought.

Stronger than anyone she’d run across in the apocalypse.

If they had been opponents in her last life, Caroline knew she wouldn’t have lasted ten years.

When people began developing powers later, Caroline had seen terrifying individuals, but Tyler’s raw combat ability now without powers was above most of them.

He was just that dangerous.

Ivor and his last lackey, seeing all this, stumbled back in panic.
