Blake’s POV

I rarely saw Audrey this cold, this distant. The woman standing before me in William’s hospital room was practically a stranger, her eyes devoid of the warmth they once held for me.

I felt myself freeze for a moment, anger flashing through me before I could suppress it. “I just want to talk about Thalia

Felix stood up, glancing at Audrey with a light smile, trying to ease the tension. “Audrey, have you had breakfast yet?

“I’m going to get Mr. Parker some food. Want to join me?”

Audrey nodded quickly, obviously eager to escape the oppressive environment. “Sure.”

“Wait.” Just as the two reached the door, I spoke coldly, my voice carrying an undeniable command. “Felix, stay and keep

my grandfather company.”

I stood up, feeling my height advantage as I moved to Audrey’s side, almost physically blocking her path. “I’ll go with her.

Felix paused, instinctively glancing at Audrey, his expression awkward. “Well…”

Audrey frowned slightly as she looked at me. After brief consideration, she finally nodded. “Felix, please stay. I actually have something to discuss with him.”

With that, she strode out of the hospital room, her figure resolute and stubborn. I followed closely behind.

The elevator closed, trapping Blake and me inside.

Despite the space, I couldn’t breathe normally. My pulse quickened.

His cedar scent filled the air between us.

Fortunately, the elevator doors soon opened again.

This time, a large family entered. At the center of the group was a new mother in a wheelchair, holding an infant in her arms. Her face was rosy, her smile radiant.

The family occupied most of the elevator space, their cheerful voices filling the entire elevator.

Almost instinctively, Blake turned toward me, shielding me from the crowd. His movement was natural and protective, like a habit formed over years.

“Honey, you’ve been so strong,” the new father in the elevator spoke up as he looked at his wife. “Seeing you in surgery nearly killed me.”

“I felt terrible putting you through childbirth,” he continued, touching her shoulder gently.
