Chapter 311

Audrey’s POV

Twilight settled over Long Island as Dr. Clarke’s birthday gala went into full swing. I smoothed down the emerald-accented dress Eleanor had selected for me, making sure Emma’s matching ribbon was straight.

With Emma’s small hand in mine and my other arm linked through Adrian’s, we made our entrance. Despite Dr. Clarke not being among the wealthiest in attendance, his forty years treating seemingly impossible medical cases worldwide had earned him a celebration packed with influential guests.

At the entrance, a man in a white suit greeted each arrival. I recognized him immediately.

“Welcome!” he said to the couple ahead of us. “My grandfather can’t stand here long, so I’m filling in.”

After the couple moved on, Adrian handed over our invitation.

“The Knox family,” the man said, glancing down before looking up with a practiced smile. “Mr. Knox, Mrs. Knox, I’m Dr. Clarke’s grandson. My grandfather’s resting, so I’m here to welcome you.”

When his eyes met mine, the recognition was instant. His pupils contracted and his mouth fell open mid-sentence. “You… Audrey!”

Without hesitation, he abandoned his post, practically vaulting over the table between us. “Audrey! Is it really you?”

He reached for my arm then stopped himself, his hands fidgeting at his sides instead. “I knew you had to be alive!”

Watching my old friend’s unfiltered joy caused unexpected emotions to surface. Felix was Dr. Clarke’s grandson, and clearly, he knew my real identity.

“I… Before I could respond, I felt someone watching me. Turning slightly, I locked eyes with Blake standing twenty feet away, his expression calculating.

I pulled away from Felix. “I’m sorry, but you’ve mistaken me for someone else.”

“Audrey, why are you still

“Mr. Thompson,” I cut him off, subtly shaking my head and glancing toward Blake.

“You’ve really mistaken me for someone else.”

Felix’s eyes darted between Blake and me, understanding dawning on his face.

“When exactly did you become acquainted with Mrs. Knox?” Blake’s cold voice sliced through the moment. “I don’t recall hearing about this before.”

Felix recovered quickly. “I’m sorry, Mrs. Knox. I mistook you for someone else. You look remarkably similar to a friend of mine.”

I exhaled softly. “That friend would be Blake Parker’s ex-wife, Audrey Sinclair, I’m guessing? I’ve been mistaken for her several times lately.” I glanced at Blake. “Though Mr. Parker seems particularly convinced I’m her.”

“Since you’re friends with him…could you convince him to stop bothering me?”

‘1…will.”

“Thank you,” Adrian said, “We should let you get back to your duties.”

As we walked toward the main hall, I could feel Blake’s gaze following us.

Blake’s POV

I watched them disappear into the crowd, the little girl skipping beside them.

Felix stood frozen, staring after them.

“That woman…” I studied his face. “You also think she’s Audrey Sinclair, right?”

He laughed awkwardly. “A mistake. She looks similar.” He quickly changed topics. “Where’s Rachel? I thought she was coming with

you.”

I looked toward where Audrey had disappeared. “She went to pick up some guests who decided last minute to attend.” My lips curved slightly. “You know them both.”

“Who?” Felix asked, confusion evident. “Do they know my grandfather?”

“When they arrive, you’ll understand.”

Felix’s expression shifted from confusion to concern. “When will Rachel be back?”

I checked my watch. “Soon. Though they might not come to the party immediately.”

They’ll likely have their confrontation outside first, I thought.

Astrid’s POV

I hit the tarmac running, rage propelling me forward. Rachel stood waiting by the exit. I grabbed her collar the moment I reached

her.

“We once considered you our best friend!” The words burned in my throat. “Now look at you!”

“Not only did you get engaged to her scumbag ex-husband after she died, you’ve become their errand girl!” My grip tightened on her blouse. “Whatever Thalia and Rebecca want, you just do it!”

I ignored him. “Do you have any idea what Snow meant to Audrey? How could you just give her away?”,

“Blake didn’t want her anymore? Fine! But you should have called me or Ethan!” My voice cracked despite my efforts to stay steady.

“Snow was everything to Audrey. I would’ve quit my job before giving away her last connection to this world!”、

My grip tightened, veins popping on the back of my hand. “Keep this up and we’re done, Rachel!”
