Divorce Me Before Death Takes Me, CEO novel Chapter 434

Chapter 434

Audrey’s POV

“A bride being arrested at her own wedding – that’s something you don’t see every day,” Henry remarked, watching the chaos unfold.

He sipped his wine, glancing at me. “She mentioned you before they took her away. Aren’t you going to check on her?”

He set down his glass with a faint smile. “You were close friends once, weren’t you?”

I frowned slightly. “Astrid is my only real friend now.”

I glanced toward where Astrid sat beside Ryan Quinn. Despite their physical proximity, her body language clearly rejected him. Whatever was happening between them, there was no genuine connection.

‘Did you do something to upset Astrid?” I asked Henry.

His gaze hardened. “Perhaps this is who she really is.”

I rubbed my aching temple, frustration building inside me.

All evening, I’d alternated between watching the Parker family drama and trying to explain Astrid’s feelings to Henry. I knew it wasn’t my place to interfere, but as her best friend, I couldn’t stand seeing her genuine feelings misunderstood as some calculated attempt to get close to him.

Yet Henry seemed determined not to believe that Astrid had truly cared for him.

I took a deep breath, lowering my voice. “If you don’t believe me, there’s nothing more I can say..

“But don’t come to regret it later,” I warned. “Her feelings aren’t endless. Once she’s completely disappointed in you, you won’t win her back even if you

tried.”

Henry raised an eyebrow, studying me with sudden interest. “Like Blake is with you?”

Caught off guard by the shift in topic, I froze momentarily.

After a pause, I frowned and nodded. “Something like that.”

“When I gave Blake everything, he didn’t value it,” I said. “Now that I’m supposedly dead, what good are his regret and guilt?*

As I spoke, I looked toward the stage where Blake sat. “It doesn’t matter if he – ‘

My words died as I met Blake’s intense gaze. He was staring directly at me!

I swallowed hard, stunned into silence.

## Blake’s POV

I looked away from Audrey and closed my eyes. The events of the past few days had weighed heavily on me, but now that everything was resolved, I felt oddly light. The darkness behind my eyelids grew heavier, my head increasingly foggy…

I felt my body slowly tilting forward, falling.

Dimly, I heard Michael and Jett’s alarmed shouts, followed by commotion spreading through the venue.

In the last moment before consciousness slipped away, I heard Audrey’s voice.

She was calling my name, begging me not to pass out.

I couldn’t tell if this was dream or reality, but instinctively reached toward her voice. “Audrey…”

## Audrey’s POV

Two days later, I stood in Blake’s hospital room where he remained unconscious.

Harrison’s student had visited twice, growing more furious each time about Blake’s condition.

“This is absolute madness!” the doctor exploded. “I told you my medication isn’t a miracle cure! It only masks his physical trauma temporarily!”

“Who let him throw away his crutch and stand alone?!”

“This medication has serious side effects! Didn’t I make that clear?!”

‘I specifically said he shouldn’t exert himself, and you let him stand on stage for that long?!”

Everyone looked like scolded children, heads bowed in guilt.

I looked cautiously at the doctor. “Will these side effects prevent him from walking again?”

“It’s going to be very difficult,” the doctor sighed, frowning. “His legs had a good chance of recovery before, but now…”

“They haven’t supported him for three months. Recovery would have required gradual progress. Standing so suddenly has caused significant damage…”

The doctor shook his head. “We can only hope for another miracle, like when he woke from his coma.”

I watched Blake lying motionless on the bed. His legs were injured because of me. I didn’t want to remain indebted to him forever.

The doctor suddenly brightened. “By the way, wasn’t it his ex-wife who cared for him during his coma?”

After a moment’s silence, I nodded.

“Have you considered asking her to come back?” the doctor suggested. “Perhaps another miracle might happen!”

Everyone’s gaze turned to me.

Ethan opened his mouth to speak, but ultimately remained silent.

Felix raised his eyebrows, tugging gently at the doctor’s sleeve to stop him.

The doctor frowned. ‘Is there… some problem with contacting his ex-wife?”

Felix cleared his throat, but I held up a hand to stop him.

“Yes, it’s difficult,” I said with a calm smile, speaking as if discussing someone else. “Mr. Parker’s ex-wife passed away. We have no way of knowing how she

cared for him.”

The doctor sighed with disappointment. “I see.”

He looked at Blake thoughtfully. “No wonder he keeps calling her name while unconscious.”

“That explains a lot,’ he continued. “When Parker woke from his coma, we were all amazed.”

“Even family members struggle with long-term patients. But his wife, despite barely knowing him before, married him and cared for him devotedly for six

months. Her affection apparently brought him back…”

“We thought it was true love.”

‘Such a shame she died so young.”

Felix quickly stepped forward, taking the doctor’s arm. “My grandfather just sent some documents you should review. Would you mind looking at them now?”

After they left, Ethan watched me with concern. “The doctor didn’t know the situation. His words probably brought up painful memories.”

“Don’t take it to heart.”
