Divorce Me Before Death Takes Me, CEO novel Chapter 440

Chapter 440

Audrey’s POV

“Alright then, Mrs. Wilson’s voice relaxed. “I was worried about calling with everything happening with the Parkers.”

I leaned against the hospital wall, exhaustion hitting me all at once. “What’s going on? Is something wrong with Astrid?”

“You don’t know yet?” She paused before continuing. “That girl, keeping such big news to herself. If I hadn’t cornered her just now, she wouldn’t have told

anyone.”

“Told what?”

“She lost her memory in a car accident, Mrs. Wilson sighed. “Hit her head and forgot the last five years-everything since she left for Europe.”

My grip tightened on the phone. “Lost her memory?”

Completely gone. Doesn’t remember you, Rachel, or even that boss of hers, Henry Hartford.” Her voice sharpened. “But here’s the kicker-she claims she has a fiancé in Europe! Says they’ve been engaged for years! Can you believe it? My Astrid, secretly engaged and never telling us?”

This explained Astrid’s strange behavior earlier-why she didn’t recognize me, why she passed on revenge against Thalia.

“And when she came home, she had a red handprint on her face,” Mrs. Wilson continued. “I pressed her until she admitted her so-called fiancé had slapped

her!”

“He hit her?” The words came out sharper than I intended.

“Yes! When has anyone ever dared to treat her like that?”

The Astrid I knew would destroy any man who touched her that way.

“Do you know him?” Mrs. Wilson asked anxiously.

I’m… not really familiar with him either.”

“There’s a lot happening right now,” I said. “William just passed away, Blake’s in a coma. Once I finish here, I’ll look into Astrid’s situation.”

“Just keep her away from that fiancé as much as possible.”

“I will,” she agreed. ‘And Audrey, don’t be too sad. William loved you and Blake more than anyone. Seeing you before he passed… I’m sure he left this world

content.”

After hanging up, I closed my eyes, letting everything sink in. William gone. Blake unconscious, And now Astrid had forgotten our entire friendship.

I headed toward Blake’s room, needing to see him before I dealt with anything else.

Ethan was walking out when he spotted me in the hallway.

‘Audrey,” he called. “Why are you just standing there?”

I followed him into the room where Blake lay motionless, surrounded by machines.

“Where’s Astrid?” Ethan asked. “I thought she’d be with you.”

‘She went home.”

Chapter 440

“Oh. His brow furrowed. “I called her earlier and she acted like she didn’t know me. Asked who I was.”

‘I couldn’t find you after you left Thompson mansion and got worried.” He ran a hand through his hair. “When I couldn’t reach you, I tried Astrid.”

The weird part was when I mentioned I was worried about you that I couldn’t find you-she paused then said she’d help look for you.”

My fingers tightened around my phone. She offered to help even though she claimed not to know you?”

“Yeah, she even told me not to worry, that you’d be fine.” He frowned. ‘Are you two fighting or something?”

The thought of Astrid still wanting to help me, even with no memory of our friendship, made my throat tighten.

‘I need to go see her,” I said, standing up.

“Now?” Ethan looked surprised. ‘You just got here.”

I turned to Blake’s unconscious form, sudden anger surging through me.

“William is gone,” I said coldly. “The person who loved you most in this world is dead.”

I stepped closer. “If you have any decency left, you’ll wake up soon. You should be at William’s funeral tomorrow, even if you have to show up in a wheelchair.”

Audrey, how can you – ” Ethan looked shocked.

“What should I say instead? He pushed himself too hard at that wedding without thinking about consequences. Did he ever consider he might miss his grandfather’s funeral?”

Ethan’s hands balled into fists. “That’s not fair! He only did what he did because-

“I’m not interested in arguing, I cut him off, already heading for the door. “I’m going to find Astrid. Don’t call me unless Blake dies or wakes up.”

At the Wilson mansion, I ran into Mr. Wilson getting out of his car. He carried a bag of dragon fruits-Astrid’s favorite. I smiled faintly, having bought the same thing.

“Here to see Astrid?” he asked, glancing at the fruit in my hands.

“Yeah.”

He sighed heavily as we walked toward the door. “My wife just told me about this fiancé situation. Did you know about it?”

‘Found out recently myself,” I admitted.

“It’s ridiculous!” His voice rose, ‘Keeping it from us is one thing, but from you too? Why hide an engagement for five years?”

He unlocked the door, still venting. ‘I almost started setting her up on dates! The Wilson name still means something in New York. She could have anyone she wanted. Why choose some random European guy?”

“Mr. Wilson,” I said gently, “remember she lost her memory. Maybe there’s more to this than we realize.”

“What more could there be?” he demanded. Five years gone from her mind, but this man remains? That says something about her feelings, doesn’t it?”

“Maybe this isn’t exactly what it seems,” I suggested carefully.

He paused, hand on the doorknob. “What do you mean? You think he’s not really her fiancé? That he’s made up?”

I changed the subject. “Have you heard about William’s passing?”
