Goodbye, Mr. Ex: I've Remarried Mr. Right novel Chapter 1880

"No way," Drake said, shrugging. "I've got you guys. If I get canned, I'll open a shop with my savings. With you watching my back, it'll be fine."

Robert smacked his head. "Dream on. You know what happens to those who leave the Bernard family or get eliminated."

He paused and added, "Think about our old crew. What happened to them? As long as Shawn sees value in us, he won't let us go. Want to end up begging on the streets? I'll toss you some cash."

Drake went quiet. He was just joking.

Deep down, he knew once one was in this muck, getting out was almost impossible. They might be stuck with the Bernards forever, always a bodyguard ready to take a bullet.

"Marion, what's your take?" he asked.

Seven years had passed since they met. They had a bond now, with Marion as their brain. In danger, they trusted his judgment.

"I'm staying," Marion replied blandly.

Drake frowned. "You never thought about leaving?"

With his ability, Marion could have thrived anywhere else. He didn't have to be a pawn for Shawn.

"Miss Bernard," Robert and Drake greeted her, but she only had eyes for Marion.

She offered him a box of imported chocolates. "A friend got these. They're rare. I want you to have them."

Marion glanced at the box and took it. "Thanks, Miss Bernard."

Cathryn blushed. "Today is White Day."

Drake leaned to Robert, whispering, "What's White Day?"
