100 The Bitter Truth

“Fine, I’ll cooperate,” Nancy declared loudly. “But on one condition. If you find nothing, you all gotta apologize. And I get to pick any item from this store for free”

Why should Chloe have all the luck? Nancy wanted some too.

The duty manager agreed without hesitation. “Very well. Then please cooperate with our inspection, ladies.”

Nancy scoffed and glanced at Carolyn, who stepped forward and threw her limited edition Chanel bag at

the staff.

“Go ahead! Search all you want!” Carolyn sneered.

The female employee took the bag and emptied its contents onto the counter in full view of everyone: lipstick, perfume, a phone, some basic items. Nothing unusual.

“Keep looking! Maybe you’ll find something you planted!” Carolyn’s tone grew more aggressive. “Who was it that promised to apologize? Apologize now!”

The manager’s eyes shifted to Nancy, waiting for her bag to be inspected.

Refusing to back down, Nancy grew even more defiant. She pointed at the group. “You’re going to regret this today.”

With that, she tossed her Hermès bag to the staff, crossed her arms, and lifted her chin proudly. “Remember what I said. If you find nothing, you all gotta apologize to me!”

The female employee remained silent, quickly put on gloves, and carefully emptied the contents of Nancy’s bag onto the counter.

Nancy’s bag contained more items–essentials, several VIP cards, and even a small box of… personal items.

Seeing that, Nancy reached to grab it back without hesitation.

“Don’t touch!” The staff moved to block her.

“Get out of my way! It’s mine!” Nancy felt a bit awkward. Being searched in front of a crowd and having those items exposed–if her family found out, she’d never hear the end of it.

Damn it! She’d hired some attractive gigolos at the club last weekend and had packed those items, then forgotten to remove them afterward.

Just wait until they had to apologize. If anyone dared to gossip about what was in her bag, she’d make them

pay.

“Manager, look…” The staff’s surprised voice drew Nancy’s attention. She looked over and saw the employee pull a ruby ring from her bag.

“What…?” Nancy’s eyes widened in disbelief.

Carolyn was equally shocked when she saw the ring.

How was this possible? Why was the ring found in Nancy’s bag?

The manager’s expression turned grim. “Is this the missing item?”

The counter staff quickly confirmed, “Yes, sir.”

The manager looked coldly at Nancy. “Ms. Steffes, we didn’t plant this, did we? Still waiting for that apology?”

Nancy stood frozen, staring blankly at the ruby ring in the manager’s hand. This was impossible. She had personally slipped that ring into Chloe’s pocket. How did it end up back in her own bag?

Had the ring grown wings and flown back?

This was insane.

This can’t be right!” Nancy protested. “There’s no way. Someone set me up. I clearly already-”

She caught herself just in time and glanced around at the crowd. “Why would I take your ring? It’s just a ruby. I don’t need it. Besides, I’m not short on money. Why would I steal from you? Something’s wrong here. Someone must have framed me.”
