Eugene had jumped to that conclusion because he was convinced Oralia was male.

This girl–she’s out there having a blast, and here I’m stuck with this big misunderstanding!

“She’s a special friend to me.”

“I never would have guessed that was your type, Ms. Lewis. Compared to your ex–husband, the CEO of Myers Group, this one doesn’t even come close. I’d have thought if you were looking for someone new, you’d at least pick a man who could outclass him.” Eugene clicked his tongue dismissively. “Didn’t expect you’d go for someone with that kind of build.”

A ‘special‘ friend? So that guy really was her boyfriend, then? Eugene’s expression darkened slightly, and the atmosphere around them grew chillier.

Chloe almost laughed out loud. Why did that line sound so familiar? Her son Robert had said something very similar before.

“My friend isn’t interested in me that way. Honestly, she’d probably be much more attracted to someone like you,” Chloe teased back.

Eugene’s eyes narrowed at her words, but before he could respond, Chloe cut in.

“She’s a woman.”

That was all she said. Just those three words.

A woman?

Something shifted in Eugene’s eyes, but his face quickly returned to its usual composure. He looked at Chloe and replied calmly, “Ms. Lewis, your friend is certainly… unique.”

“I’ll accept that compliment on her behalf.” Chloe smiled. “So, Mr. Rosewood, did you come to Nightfall Club just to have fun?”

“Nightfall Club belongs to Landon, and I’m an investor. I stop by when I have some free time,” Eugene stated matter–of–factly.

“Understood. Well, don’t let me keep you. I should be going.” Chloe turned to walk toward her

car.

“Ms. Lewis.”

Eugene’s voice stopped her.

Chloe turned back to face his serious gaze. “Yes?”

“Did you have anything to drink tonight?”

Eugene closed the distance between them, leaning in slightly.

He was suddenly so close that Chloe instinctively took a small step back, though she maintained her cool demeanor. She had no idea what he was plaving at, invading her personal space like this.

“If you’ve been drinking, you shouldn’t drive. I’ll have Bruce take your car back. If you’re free, there’s a place I’d like to show you.” Eugene studied her face, then added, “I believe it will interest you.”

Chloe considered it for a moment. She had arranged for a driver, but it seemed she could cancel that now.

“Alright.” She tossed her car keys to Bruce and gave him a hotel address.

She was relieved she’d prepared the hotel cover story in advance. Both the Lewis and Myers families would undoubtedly be checking on her whereabouts. Since she and Robert had left the Lewis and Myers families, staying at a hotel was completely normal.

She’d registered at that hotel, so any investigation would confirm she and Robert were staying there.

Chloe got into Eugene’s car, and he slid in beside her. Soon they were moving through the city

streets.

Watching the city lights blur past the window, Chloe asked, “Where are we going?”

“You’ll see soon. The place is almost ready, about ninety percent complete. It won’t be long before it’s revealed to the public.” Eugene leaned back in his seat. “I’m confident it will be a major success this time.”

Hearing this, Chloe’s interest was piqued. She was curious about this mysterious place he kept mentioning.

Eugene glanced at the woman beside him. Even in profile, her features were striking–sharp and elegantly defined.

Just then, his phone vibrated with an incoming message. Eugene glanced at it casually.

The message identified the stylish person with Chloe at Nightfall Club as Oralia Larson, a globally popular 24–year–old actress. It noted that Oralia regularly appeared on annual lists of most popular actresses.
