Chapter 112 Golden Opportunity
The voice on the other end sounded clearly annoyed.

“Look, I’d love to have you as my plus–one, but I’ve already got plans. The gorgeous Selina is my number one right now,” Landon said, then switched gears.
“But I just ran into Ms. Lewis. I asked her to work overtime this weekend and be your date for the charity gala,” Landon declared before abruptly ending the call.
A satisfied smirk spread across his face as he stared at the silent phone. He began counting silently: one, two, three…
Exactly as expected, the device buzzed again. This time, Eugene was calling back.
Landon let it ring a couple times before answering. “Yeah?”
At the Myers Manor, two gold–embossed invitations arrived. When Arthur saw them, he told Donald to send one to his mother.
Jennifer was surprised when she saw the invitation. It was the charity gala at Mistveil Manor—a triennial grand affair hosted by Joseph Slade, the most authoritative figure in the charity circle.
Even though she didn’t move in those circles, she’d heard stories. Royalty had attended last time. While it looked like a charity event on the surface, everyone knew it was really where business deals happened.
It was the perfect place to make connections. So many big shots would be there, including those you’d never get to meet no matter how hard you tried in the business circle.
People would go to great lengths to get an entry ticket.
The Myers family was among Capaville’s upper class, so receiving gold invitations wasn’t surprising.
Since Arthur had the invitation, he would need someone to accompany him.
Jennifer placed her homemade coffee in front of Arthur, barely containing her excitement. “Arthur, I bought a lovely emerald pendant overseas. I’ve already sent it to Mrs. Myers through the housekeeper. If she’s goin with you, please give it to her. I hope she enjoys the evening.”
Arthur gave a slight nod. “I’ll thank you on her behalf.”
He leaned back on the sofa, clearly distracted.
Jennifer examined the gold invitation. Only two types existed for this event–gold and silver, both given out personally by the organizers.
Arthur’s gold invitation was the highest level; fewer than 20 were issued each time.
She used to dream of just getting inside, maybe meeting a few important people. Now the opportunity was right in her hands.

“Arthur, this sounds like a wonderful event. It’s too bad Chloe isn’t here anymore. She could have gone with you.” Jennifer deliberately mentioned Chloe’s name.
Arthur’s expression darkened. Just before the invitation arrived, he’d received some news about Chloe.
Donald had reported that Chloe suddenly had money and went on a shopping spree at Belle Mall.
If Chloe really had 180 million, she’d definitely be spending. But Arthur knew she’d put that money in a trust where she could lose even the original amount. There was no way she had cash to throw around.
To get money, she made a fuss at the Lewis Manor–after that, she severed all relations with the Lewis family.
Where would someone like that get money? The sources had to be questionable.
Arthur had told Donald to look into Chloe’s finances, but he found nothing. Arthur was burning with curiosity about where the money came from.
“Arthur!” Jennifer’s voice pulled him from his thoughts.
He looked up to see her serious expression. “If you need someone, I could go with you to the gala.”
Arthur showed little reaction, just giving a slight nod without speaking.
