Chapter 121 A Humiliating Scene
The moment the words left his mouth, it was pretty much confirmed–Chloe’s invitation was a fake. The guests, who’d been muttering quietly among themselves just seconds before, started calling her out openly, voices rising with irritation.
“Seriously? How did Mistveil Manor let this slip through?” one guest huffed. “This totally goes against Mr. Slade’s rules–he’s so strict about invites!”
“Right? Everyone knows there’s only gold or silver ones!” another chimed in. “If you’re gonna fake it, at least make it look real! A red one? That’s just lazy!”
“If it’s fake, kick her out already!” someone shouted from the crowd. “Don’t make Mr. Slade come down here and see this mess–he’ll blow a fuse for sure!”
The man in the suit turned to Chloe, his brows furrowed and face clearly annoyed. He held out his hand slightly, pressing for an answer. “Miss, care to explain exactly where you got this invitation? And don’t tell me some made–up story–we need the truth.”
“I’m here because I was invited,” Chloe said simply. Landon had handled her invitation personally. She didn’t know the exact sender, but one thing was sure–it was real.
Landon wouldn’t play a trick on her like this.
“Every single invitation from the Mistveil Manor is on my list. Your name isn’t there,” the suit guy said, his tone turning cold. “We have zero tolerance for fake invitations here.”
He gestured sharply. “Miss, please leave. If you refuse, security will escort you out. Trust me,
you
won’t like how that ends.”
A flicker of smug satisfaction crossed Jennifer’s eyes. She’d tipped off the manager in charge of hotel inspections and pointed Chloe out as the fraud.
Security at the Mistveil Manor was always tight. After years of these charity galas, their reputation was flawless–no one had ever slipped in with a fake invite before.
If word got out that Chloe had faked her way in and got dragged out in front of everyone, her reputation would be ruined forever.
A nobody from the countryside, no education, no status, trying to climb using someone else’s stage? The internet would eat her alive.
Chloe didn’t budge. She just scanned the faces around her.
“Since this lady refuses to leave, we’ll have to assist her,” the suit guy said, nodding to his staff. They moved in, ready to grab Chloe’s arms.

“Wait.”
Arthur’s voice cut through the room. He strode over quickly, crossing the space in a few long steps.
He positioned himself in front of Chloe, facing the man in the suit. “My apologies for the commotion. She’s here with me.”
Arthur’s voice held a hint of tension.
The guests looked at Arthur, curiosity sparking. He was the CEO of Myers Group. Most people here knew him. Why was he stepping in for her?
Who was this woman?
Why did she have a fake invitation?
Arthur turned to Chloe, his voice dropping low. “Chloe, I don’t know what game you’re playing, but this isn’t the place. Almost every important family in Capaville is here. This party isn’t for your little stunts.”
“Stunts?” Chloe repeated, almost laughing at the absurdity.
“Just behave, and I’ll make sure you can stay for the party. Leave quietly when it’s over. Don’t show up at places like this again. I don’t care whose attention you’re trying to get, but this is too far.” Arthur clenched his fist, his annoyance clear. “I’m helping you this one time. Don’t expect it again.”
Arthur had been discussing business with Mark when he overheard whispers about security dragging someone out for a fake invite.
He’d had a feeling Chloe was behind the trouble. As her ex–husband, it would reflect badly on him too if she got publicly thrown out.
