“Mommy, this is Anthony Ruiz, heir to the Ruiz family in Capaville.” Robert’s voice came through her earpiece. “Just turned 20 last month. Total spoiled brat–the only grandson of Kerry Ruiz. All that family effort went into raising this waste of space.”
Chloe glanced at the arrogant young man before her after hearing this.
Only twenty!
A kid who probably just stopped wetting the bed, trying to act tough in front of her?
Chloe sighed to herself, wondering where Selena had disappeared to and why she wasn’t back
yet.
Anthony Ruiz grew irritated by Chloe’s obvious disregard. Here he was, giving her his attention, and she couldn’t care less. She was outright ignoring him.
Who did this woman think she was?
Did she even realize who was standing in front of her?
With a snap of his fingers, he could have anything in Capaville–money, influence, whatever. Women constantly threw themselves at him, yet this one looked at him like he was dirt.
Hah! Playing hard to get, was she?
“Hey, I’m doing you a favor by even talking to you,” Anthony said with a nasty smirk. “Come on, I’ll show you the Mistveil Manor. Or maybe we can find a quiet spot for a… private chat?”
Robert’s voice returned. “Kerry Ruiz and Mr. Slade have been friends for decades. Anthony’s here representing his grandpa.”
Chloe had no patience for this. She offered a polite, dismissive smile. “Excuse me.”
She tried to step around him, but Anthony moved to block her path again.
“What’s your hurry? I’m still talking to you,” he said, annoyed that her beautiful eyes refused to meet his. “Do you know who I am? Stick with me, and you can have anything.”
“Really?” Chloe finally looked directly at him, raising one eyebrow.
That single glance hooked him. Seeing her seemingly curious expression made him feel even more superior.
“Yeah. Tell her who I am.” Anthony snapped his fingers. The bodyguard behind him

immediately spoke up.
“Miss, this is the heir to Ruiz Group. You should feel honored by his interest.”
Chloe’s expression didn’t change at the mention of his title. She looked at Anthony and smiled faintly. “So if I said I wanted you dead, could you arrange that for me? Go on, show me.”
Anthony had imagined her being impressed, excited, maybe even dragging him to a bedroom. Instead, she hit him with pure sarcasm.
“You…”
“You said I could have anything I wanted.” Chloe’s voice turned icy.
Anthony finally realized she was making fun of him. His tone turned ugly. “Listen, you should be grateful I’m interested. Play nice and keep me happy, or else. I can’t promise you’ll walk out of here unharmed if you refuse.”
He knew these social climbers. They all pretended to be hard to get at first. He’d make sure she screamed louder than any of them later.
“What if I say no?” Chloe raised an eyebrow, unfazed as Anthony and his bodyguards closed in.
“Then you won’t get a choice. I always get what I want.” Anthony grew bolder, signaling his bodyguards. Two of them moved to surround Chloe.
The message was clear: if she resisted, they’d intervene. Even if she refused, they had ways to make her comply.
Chloe didn’t back down. She actually looked more amused.
“How funny. You won’t get what you want either.” Chloe’s eyes darkened as she stepped back, ready to teach these bodyguards a painful lesson if they laid a hand on her.
