“I know,” Arthur said, his voice gentle, trying to soothe her. He sounded like he didn’t blame Jennifer in the slightest.

Chloe shot him an icy glare. “Wow, talk about double standards,” she sneered, her voice dripping with

contempt.

Arthur fell silent, at a loss for words.

“Mommy, are you okay?” Jenarth’s small, anxious voice piped up.

“I’m fine… I’m really okay…” Jennifer managed a weak smile, but the effort was too much. The next instant, her legs gave way and she crumpled.

“Jennifer!” Arthur shouted, lunging forward just in time to catch her before she hit the floor.

She fell like a fragile blossom, landing limply in his arms. Seeing her deathly pale face, a sudden, sharp panic seized Arthur.

“Jennifer?” he called softly, but there was no response. “Jennifer!” he repeated, his voice rising with alarm.

He was starting to freak out. Her health was already so precarious–the doctor’s warning echoed in his mind–if she didn’t take extreme care, she might not even have three years left. She needed peace, zero

stress.

But today, with Chloe pushing her and even Robert adding to the accusations… it was all too much. This emotional turmoil was the last thing Jennifer could handle.

‘Chloe, Jennifer is unwell. Stop harassing her. I’ll apologize on her behalf,” Arthur said, frustration and worry warring in his voice. “If anything serious happens to her, I’m holding you responsible.”

“Pathetic,” Chloe scoffed. Any lingering doubt she might have had about Arthur evaporated in that moment. Even if he dropped dead right there to prove a point, she wouldn’t bat an eye.

She wanted absolutely nothing to do with a man this repulsive. The farther he was from her life, the better.

All she cared about now was getting those papers signed.

What an utter fool. Only someone as gullible as Arthur would fall for Jennifer’s pathetic acting.

“Daddy Arthur, is Mommy going to die?” Jenarth’s small, trembling voice carried through the dining room, tugging uncomfortably at heartstrings.

The sound of Jenarth’s voice snapped Arthur back to reality. Arguing with Chloe now was pointless.

“Jennifer, Jennifer… wake up,” he murmured, gathering her unconscious form into his arms and striding purposefully out of the room. “Hang in there, Jennifer. I’m taking you to the hospital…”

His anxious words faded as he hurried away, leaving a tense silence in his wake.

Chloe’s face remained a complete blank, utterly impassive. The entire scene might as well have been happening on another planet for all the emotion it stirred in her. She didn’t care. Not one bit.

“Robert, let’s go. I need some eye drops after that disgusting display,” Chloe declared, grabbing Robert’s hand and turning to leave.

Just then, her phone buzzed. It was the lawyer, Zachary Graham.

Answering it, she confirmed he had arrived at Eve Restaurant. Without hesitation, she issued her command, “Zachary, I’ll pay double. Deliver the divorce papers to Myers Manor yourself.”

After giving the order, Chloe moved to leave with Robert, but she paused after a single step.

Her gaze lifted towards the private rooms upstairs. The special one–way curtains prevented anyone downstairs from seeing in, but the vague outlines of moving shadows were just perceptible.
