Chapter 133: A Scene Unfolds
The instant Chloe turned and walked away, a ripple of whispers spread throughout the room. Guests leaned in, eager to pinpoint the designer behind her stunning gown and to find out where they might acquire something similar. The buzz was palpable, a testament to Chloe’s undeniable presence.
Meanwhile, Jennifer, dressed in her own limited edition outfit, went largely unnoticed—no second glances, no murmurs. The contrast was maddening.
Feigning excitement, Jennifer called out softly, “Arthur, look—there’s Chloe! She actually showed up.” Her tone was carefully measured, meant only for his ears.
But Arthur didn’t respond. His eyes remained locked on the entrance, where Chloe had just made her grand appearance.
She entered like a star, flanked by influential figures. Arthur caught sight of Joseph pausing just inside the door, turning back with a smile as he spoke to the group accompanying Chloe.
Was Joseph addressing Chloe herself? Or was he speaking to the two men beside her? Either way, Joseph stood directly in front of Chloe, commanding attention.
“Arthur, it looks like Chloe and Mr. Slade are quite close,” Jennifer whispered at just the right moment, her voice low and deliberate.
Hearing Chloe’s name linked with Joseph sent a jolt through Arthur—sharp, unexpected, and laced with simmering anger. Chloe was his wife, yet here she was, dressed to captivate, standing openly beside Joseph for all to see.
Joseph was well into his seventies, a revered legend in Capaville, respected and almost untouchable. Arthur recalled Chloe’s past sarcastic remarks about him. Could this be her way of getting back at him? Throwing herself at a man old enough to be her grandfather? The thought ignited a fierce rage within Arthur.
Without hesitation, he shoved Jennifer aside and stormed toward Chloe.
“Arthur!” Jennifer called after him, but he was already moving with a determined, heavy stride, jaw clenched, not stopping for anyone.
Normally, Madilyn might have welcomed Arthur’s approach, but with Chloe standing there, she knew his focus was solely on her.
“Stop him! Quickly! Don’t let him cause a scene!” Madilyn hissed at Jennifer, panic tightening her voice, before spinning around and chasing after Arthur herself.
Across the room, Landon calmly surveyed the bustling crowd, a faint, satisfied smirk playing at his lips. His gaze settled on Chloe, noting how every eye in the room was fixed on her—specifically on the elegant gown she wore.
This was exactly the kind of attention he had hoped for. For the launch of LOVE’s Four Seasons collection, Chloe’s entrance was the perfect opening.
“That dress looks amazing on you,” Landon murmured as he leaned in closer. “You’re the perfect model. Bonus.”
Chloe smiled warmly. “You’re very generous, boss. I’ll have to work even harder now.”
“Absolutely,” Landon replied with a nod. Clearing his throat, he then moved off to join Joseph, who was busy greeting other guests.
