Chapter 157: Resignation
Diana’s heart pounded as she watched the elevator doors slide shut, her feet bouncing nervously on the polished floor.
“Chloe, this really isn’t the right moment to head upstairs! The manager is—” Her warning was abruptly cut off, swallowed by the closing metal doors. All she could do was stare helplessly as the illuminated numbers climbed steadily toward the design department.
She had hurried down deliberately, hoping to stop Chloe before she could walk into a confrontation with Linda. Diana dreaded the thought of the two women clashing directly—she knew it would only make things worse. If Chloe went up now, there was no doubt she would run straight into Linda.
From the anxious look on Diana’s face, Chloe already suspected trouble brewing within the design department. But she hadn’t yet grasped the full extent of the storm waiting for her.
The moment Chloe stepped out of the elevator, every single person in the room turned their gaze toward her. Like clockwork, they parted to create a clear path.
At the far end of the corridor, standing by the manager’s office door, was the manager himself. Next to him stood a woman, her finger pointed accusingly as her voice rang out sharply.
“Everyone here knows my track record in this department. LOVE’s best-selling lines have always been my ‘To Me’ collections. If the company wants to support the new recruits, that’s their choice. But to appoint some outsider as design director—someone ordinary, without any remarkable skills—how can anyone respect that?”
Linda’s voice cut through the air, dripping with biting sarcasm.
“I suppose I lack a strong background, no real talent, and I’m not in the right circles to win favors. Fine. I’ll accept that and step aside.”
Her eyes caught Chloe’s reflection in the glass partition. A cold, thin smile crept across Linda’s lips before she yanked off her “chief designer” badge and flung it toward the manager.
“Linda!” Lisa rushed forward, grabbing her arm in a desperate attempt to hold her back.
But Linda shook her off with a firm resolve. “Lisa, you’re on your own now. I can’t help you anymore. I’m quitting today.”
She swept her gaze over the design team, sneering with bitter finality.
“All of you, do your best. Clearly, I’m not good enough here. I’m leaving to find a place that truly values real talent.”
Linda had been with LOVE for years and, in everyone’s eyes, was the shining star of the chief designers. Her announcement silenced the room, leaving a stunned hush. No one knew how to respond.
Lisa, who had always been Linda’s loyal assistant, placed her own badge on the table with a heavy sigh.
“If Linda’s leaving, I’m going with her. I want to work somewhere that genuinely respects design. I’ll follow Linda and chase after the design master, Mirabelle.”
At the mention of Mirabelle’s name, Chloe’s eyes lifted slightly, a faint spark flickering within them.
She stepped forward, her gaze briefly scanning Linda but remaining silent.
