He Cheated I Rose: Making Him Regret Everything (Chloe and Arthur) novel Chapter 199

**A Promise Hidden in the Quiet Rain**
**by Adrian Hale**
**Chapter 199: The Payoff**

In the soft, muted glow of the room, Jennifer could barely discern the solitary figure of Arthur, slumped on the sofa, enveloped by an oppressive silence. He appeared utterly defeated, a shadow of the man she once knew. Was he mourning? The thought gnawed at her, a relentless ache in her chest.

“Arthur,” she began, her voice barely above a whisper, “thank you… for helping me.” She struggled to keep her tone humble, the words feeling heavy on her tongue.

That wretched Chloe had truly gone out of her way to destroy her. If it hadn’t been for Arthur’s connections and the exorbitant sum he had paid to secure her release on bail, she would still be trapped in that hellhole.

Yet, while the internet seemed to idolize Chloe, casting her as the heroine of the story, Jennifer found herself submerged in a tide of animosity. The comments online were suffocating, each one a dagger to her heart. She couldn’t bear to read them, knowing that they would only deepen her despair.

But what unsettled her most was Arthur’s sudden distance. Was he really considering severing their ties?

Her voice, thick with desperation, lingered in the air, but Arthur remained unmoving, a statue of silence.

“Arthur,” she pressed, her heart racing, “I’m so sorry. You know me… I’ve never harmed anyone. I’m just a timid person. This time, I was completely cornered. I never imagined Chloe could be so merciless. I’m nothing compared to her. She has all those influential people at her beck and call. All I wanted was for her to stop clinging to you because…”

She hesitated, her heart pounding in her ears, before pushing her voice to a near frantic pitch. “Arthur, can’t you see? I’ve always loved you.”

The weight of her confession hung between them, and she knew that if she hesitated any longer, she might lose him forever. She had to make him understand, to change his mind before it was too late.

“I’m so sorry!” Jennifer cried, sinking to her knees, her hands covering her face as sobs wracked her body. “It’s because I love you. I can’t bear the thought of any other woman being near you. I want to be the only one at your side. So I did something terrible. Framing Chloe was born from jealousy. It’s all because my love for you runs too deep.”

She poured out her heart, each word a desperate plea for understanding.

“I want you to truly see me. The news is everywhere now. Everyone knows about us. I don’t want to be just the woman you feel pity for, the one who saved your life. I want more than that.” Her voice broke, and she was overcome with tears, the weight of her emotions crashing down on her.

“Mommy, please don’t cry. It hurts my heart,” Jenarth whispered, crouching beside her, his small hand resting on her shoulder. “You still have me. I don’t need Daddy Arthur. I just want you to be okay.”

“Arthur, I’m so sorry. If you want to hit me, scream at me, do it. I’ll take every bit of it. Just please don’t ignore me.” Jennifer’s sobs grew louder, more frantic, each cry a plea for his attention.
