He Cheated I Rose: Making Him Regret Everything (Chloe and Arthur) novel Chapter 227

**A Promise Hidden in the Quiet Rain by Adrian Hale**

Henry stood there, watching the head guard maintain his unwavering stance, and a nervous laugh escaped his lips, the sound awkward in the tense air.

“Hey, come on now, I was just asking a simple question. No need to take it all so seriously,” he said, forcing a grin that felt more like a grimace. Turning his gaze towards Carolyn, he noticed the way she deliberately avoided his eyes, as if he were a specter haunting her. Leaning in closer, he whispered conspiratorially into her ear, “You know, since Chloe was personally invited by Mr. Eggert, I can’t just brush this aside.”

Edwin Eggert, the formidable owner of Kellian Media, loomed large in Henry’s mind. Henry was merely a deputy, a low-ranking cog in a vast machine, and the thought of challenging someone of Eggert’s stature sent a shiver down his spine.

“Relax,” he continued, trying to sound reassuring. “Did she really accuse you of stealing the welcome gifts? I’ll sort this out. I specifically instructed the staff to ensure that each person received one. I’ll make sure it’s done properly.” As he spoke, he couldn’t resist the urge to sneakily pinch Carolyn’s waist, his fingers digging in just enough to draw a flicker of pain across her face. She shot him a glare, a storm of anger brewing in her eyes, but the presence of the others kept her from voicing her frustration.

“You’ve got to back me up here,” she murmured in a voice so sweet it dripped with sarcasm.

“Don’t worry about a thing. Leave it all to me. The gifts I prepared? They’re absolutely perfect. You’re going to love them! The entire crew is getting one. If anyone dares to claim they’re hers, let’s see if she has the guts to follow through,” he said, turning his attention to Chloe, a dry chuckle escaping his lips. “Miss, did I hear you say that the gifts I prepared were actually from you?”

Chloe merely stared at the fool standing before her, a snort of disdain escaping her lips. She was far too bored to even muster a response.

Eugene had already texted her, as had Oralia and Brian. They were just around the corner—almost at the estate’s parking lot. In less than ten minutes, they would arrive and expose the farce unfolding before her.

Just ten minutes, and these clowns would reveal their true colors. She wouldn’t have to lift a finger or waste her breath.

Let them keep pretending.

She was curious to see how long they could maintain their charade.

“Everyone received your gifts, right? How are they? Pretty nice, huh? The first coffee of the fall! I’m such a thoughtful guy, aren’t I?” Henry exclaimed, flashing a wide grin at the crew, his voice booming with forced enthusiasm. “Today marks the first day of autumn. The first coffee of the fall—everyone should feel the warmth of my gratitude! Thank you all for your hard work! And Carolyn, being so young, please take good care of her on set.”

His little speech was designed to seize the spotlight, but something about it felt utterly off-kilter.

The first coffee of the fall?

Confused glances were exchanged among the crew. How did a new-season Louis Vuitton scarf morph into a mere cup of coffee? And with that extravagant packaging, it was evident that it wasn’t a drink at all. His words seemed to float in the air, devoid of meaning.

Chloe couldn’t suppress a laugh. Robert simply shook his head, his expression clearly conveying disbelief. “What are you talking about? The first coffee of the fall?” Carolyn finally grasped the absurdity and looked at him, utterly lost.
