The line went quiet for a moment before the secretary’s steady response came. “Ms. Lewis, Mr. Vick can’t be concerned about you now. He’s fighting to save himself.”

“What are you talking about?”

Carolyn stood still as the secretary spelled it out.

Henry got caught red–handed–selling confidential company information, imposing casting couch rules on new employees, and worse. The board discovered everything. They stripped him of his vice president title.

His wife exploded–froze all his accounts, publicly denounced him, and started preparing a lawsuit. Terrified of being held accountable by Kellian Media, Henry had already fled the

country.

Deleting her contact? That was the least of it. He’d even cut off all contact with his own parents, paranoid that someone might leak his location.

He fled! Just disappeared overnight! Erased her from his world completely!

The previous evening, he’d sneaked into her room, slept with her, then whispered about his wife being good for nothing. He swore that once he settled things at home, he wouldn’t hesitate for a second to get her whatever she wanted–whether it was worth a million or even ten million dollars.

She’d swallowed every lie. All night she pleased him, accepting every degrading position he demanded. Now she stood exposed–a trapped animal with the whole world waiting to pounce.

Remembering the crew’s disgusted stares, Carolyn’s legs gave out. She collapsed to the floor in utter shame.

“I’m ruined!” she hissed, fury twisting her features. The mere thought of what came next made her wish she could kill Chloe.

That bitch! Why did Chloe always come out on top? Who did she think she was? Wasn’t she just the abandoned woman, all alone, bullied wherever she went? Then why did people always gather around her wherever she showed up?

Everything Carolyn had now–every bit of this disaster–was that bitch’s fault. If it weren’t for Chloe, she would never have lost so badly.

Chloe had just gotten up when her phone rang. It was Diana.

“Got it. I’ll come over. Have him wait in the lounge,” Chloe said briefly, then hung up.

Robert heard her voice and hurried over.

“Mommy, are people from the Lewis family here?”

A slight smile touched Chloe’s lips. “Right on time.”

Just as the workday began, Scott and Monique had stormed into the design department. They acted like they had every right to be there, demanding to see her, saying it was urgent.

What else could it be? Carolyn’s mess.

If Carolyn wanted a way out, she needed a letter of forgiveness from Chloe. Chloe had guessed Scott would come, but she hadn’t expected him to be this impatient–showing up at the company already.

Fine by her. The sooner they came, the sooner she could deal with it.

“Be good at home. Zachary will stop by later to teach you something new. I’m going to the office,” Chloe told Robert. She grabbed her keys and drove to the design department herself.

“Don’t you dare stop me! I’m going to see her. I’m her father! Who do blocking my way?”

The moment Chloe stepped out of the elevator, Scott’s angry roar hit her. He was trying to push his way into her office, but Diana stood firmly in the doorway, not letting him pass.

“I already told you–wait in the lounge,” Diana remarked coldly. Her voice was firm, leaving no room for argument.

Monique stared at this young woman who dared to act so high and mighty. It made her blood boil. Clutching Scott’s arm, she said in a choked voice, “You see? Chloe’s flying high now. Someone’s backing her. She’s heartless. Even some low–level employee dares to act tough. They’re doing this on purpose to target the Lewis family!”
