Monique’s eyes locked on Chloe. “You… finally decided to show up?” She was boiling inside, but with staff everywhere, she bit back her anger. She dropped her voice to a harsh whisper, then pulled sharply at Scott’s sleeve, pushing him forward.

When Scott saw Chloe, he stopped dead. The woman facing him was radiant, so full of light it was like she owned the room. This was his daughter.

He’d been sure that once she left the Lewis family, Chloe would hit rock bottom–end up with nothing, nowhere to go. He expected her to crawl back one day, begging for his help, his money, a father’s protection.

But without a cent from the family, Chloe hadn’t just made it–she was shining.

“Chloe, there you are!” Scott pulled his shoulders back and put on a stiff smile. “I need to talk with you. Let’s find somewhere private.”

Chloe’s eyes swept over Scott and Monique. Her gaze dropped to Monique’s arm linked through Scott’s. A cold, quiet laugh escaped her. She turned to the colleagues. “Everyone, return to your

desks.”

“Yes, Ms. Lewis!”

People scattered quickly. Diana was last to go. Clutching a pile of folders, she brushed past Scott and Monique and paused beside Chloe. “Chloe, I’ll be right outside. If you need anything, just shout. I’ll come running–with security.”

“Mm.” Chloe gave a slight smile and nodded toward a meeting room nearby. “We’ll talk in there.”

Diana threw a sharp, warning look at Scott and Monique before turning away.

The meeting room door swung open. Chloe walked in without a backward glance.

Scott stood where he was. He had been about to greet Chloe, but Monique dug her fingers into his sleeve, holding him back.

Seeing the door still open, Scott finally led Monique inside.

Chloe was already seated at the head of the table.

She lifted her eyes to Scott and Monique and spoke evenly, “Mr. Lewis, you may come in. Anyone else should wait outside.”

Monique had been heading for the couch. Her eyes flashed with anger.

The second Monique heard Carolyn’s name, she set her hands on her hips and lashed out, “Chloe, don’t play dumb. We know you had Carolyn arrested! How could What did we ever do to deserve a daughter like you?”

“She dug her own grave. If you’re here to ask me for something, try acting like it. Otherwise, the door is right there.” Chloe’s hand moved toward the phone on the table, her fingers poised. One tap, and every department would be alerted.

“Chloe, I’m warning you–if you don’t drop the charges against Carolyn, I won’t let this go!” Monique shouted, her face red with anger. “Let me tell you—”

“That’s enough!” Scott’s roar echoed through the room.

Monique froze. It was the first time he had ever used that tone with her.

“Have you humiliated yourself enough for one day?” Scott barked. “Carolyn ended up like this because you spoiled her! If anyone’s to blame, it’s you, her mother!”

“You’re blaming me?”

“Get out. Wait outside.” Scott pointed firmly at the door.
