Chapter 253 The Shares on the Table
“Mr. Lewis, I don’t have time for small talk. If you have nothing important to say, please leave As she spoke, Chloe pressed the intercom button. “Diana, could you-”
“Wait.” Scott cut her off quickly. “I’ll get straight to it…”
“Chloc, do you need anything?” Diana’s voice came through the speaker.
“Not right now.” Chloe ended the call and looked calmly at Scott. “Go ahead. What is it?”
“Chloe… I’m begging you, help Carolyn.” Scott struggled with the words before finally speaking. “She didn’t think straight. She just lost her way for a second and did something stupid. You’re sisters. Can’t you let it won’t cause any more trouble.”
go this once? I promise I’ll keep her under control from now on. She
“Don’t you think this is funny? Coming here to say that to me. My mother only had one child- me. I don’t have any sisters.” Chloe gave a light, chilling laugh. “Since Carolyn is the one who messed up, shouldn’t you be begging the police? What does any of this have to do with me? Why should I lift a finger to help her?”
“She’s still your sister! If this scandal gets out, the Lewis family will be a laughingstock. Can you just stand by and watch that happen?” Scott’s voice grew louder, filled with accusation.
“Honestly? If she were locked away forever, I’d throw a party.” Chloe’s lips curved into a frosty smile. “And what does your family’s reputation have to do with me? We cut ties a long time ago. I’m not a Lewis now. Do I need to remind you? There are plenty of people named Lewis in this world. Why should anyone care about your family? What makes you so special?”
Scott’s face darkened. Her words were calm, but each one felt like a sharp knife twisting in his chest. What right did he even have to stand there and demand anything from her?
He thought about Monique’s hysterical threats–that if he didn’t get Carolyn out, she would divorce him and make his life miserable. The thought sickened him. But he was still Carolyn’s father. He couldn’t just stand by and do nothing. Carolyn had gone too far, and Chloe was now the only one who could get her out of this.
“Chloe, just tell me what you want. What will it take for you to drop the charges and let Carolyn go?” Scott lowered his voice.
Chloe let out a soft, mocking laugh. “Now that sounds more like someone asking for a favor. Good. Much better.”
Scott clenched his jaw. He needed her help, so he had to swallow his pride. “I know I’ve failed you over the years. I know you signed that agreement to cut ties with the Lewis family because you were angry. Just say it–whatever I can do, I’ll do it.”

“Whatever you can do…” Chloe frowned slightly and clicked her tongue. “Let me think about that.”
Scott had deliberately brought up the old severance agreement. Back then, Chloe had come to him asking for money. He refused. They cut ties. Now, he assumed she would demand to tear up that agreement and return to the Lewis family as the eldest daughter.
If she asked, he was prepared to agree. He could even welcome her back with a big show. As long as the two sisters could get along, he would try his best to be a proper father.
“Since you’re being so direct, I suppose I should make you do something.” Chloe relaxed into her chair and spoke lightly. “If I remember correctly, you hold sixty percent of the shares in Lewis Group, don’t you?”
Scott froze. He hadn’t expected Chloe–who supposedly knew nothing about business–to understand the company’s ownership structure.
He looked at her cautiously and replied, “Yes.”
“My mom founded Lewis Group with you. As co–founders, you each started with thirty percent -sixty together. The rest was divided among the major shareholders on the board.” Chloe smiled. “After she passed away, all sixty percent went under your name. Then you married that homewrecker and gave ten percent to Monique and Carolyn. I’m not wrong, am I, Mr. Lewis?”
