“Clo–Clo, you’re so bright. Why dim your light and live in someone else’s shadow? Those people aren’t worth you, understand?” Vincent’s lips curved. He leaned closer, inhaling the scent of her hair as if that alone could satisfy him.
“Whether they’re worth me or not isn’t for others to decide. Only I get to say.”
Upon hearing her words, a dark look passed through Vincent’s eyes, sharp and dangerous. “I could have Arthur dead before dawn–gone without a trace, like he never existed.”
He lifted a hand, and two of his men appeared instantly at the door.
“Master.”
“Go kill Arthur. I wanna-”
Before he could finish, Chloe cut him off.
“He stays alive. For now.”
Vincent stared at her, surprise flashing across his face. “Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for a man like that. A spineless fool? He isn’t worthy of you. Want me to send some pretty face his way? He’d take the bait in a second.”
Chloe met his tense gaze and smiled faintly. “What I said was, he can’t die yet.”
Vincent went quiet.
“I owe Mr. Charles Myers a debt. The Myers family won’t be dragged down by Arthur’s mistakes. If he wants to ruin himself, fine. But I won’t stand by and let the Myers name become someone else’s trophy.” Chloe lowered her voice. “Mr. Charles Myers is fading. I need something to save him.”
At that, Vincent took a step back, putting a little distance between them. The tension in the air eased slightly.
“So you let my people find you on purpose,” he said, certainty in his tone.
“You were slower than I expected.” Chloe’s voice was lazy, but her eyes held a challenge. “So… what’s your
answer?”
“What do you want?” Vincent reclined on the tatami, his figure long and graceful.
“I need a dose of B2–C.”
Vincent laughed out loud. “My dear Clo–Clo, B2–C is a legend in the medical world. From what I know, only four doses were ever made. The first was used in testing. After it worked, the second went to a foreign leader. The last two disappeared. Sure, I have good sources, but… why come to me for something like that?”
“Because you have it.” This time, Chloe’s smile reached her eyes.
Then she added, “And I know both of the remaining doses in the world are in your hands.”

His smile faded slowly. He studied her, trying to read something–anything–in her expression, but found nothing.
“Not many people in this world dare to bargain with me,” he murmured, almost to himself. “And as for women–you’re the first, and the only one. You know that, right?”
“That’s why I’m here to make a deal.” Chloe reached into her bag and placed something on the table. “I don’t take things from you for free. Consider this my payment.”
Vincent glanced down–a piece of blue–green jade. He recognized it instantly: the Sleep–Soothing Jade he’d been searching for for years.
And now it lay right in front of him.
He stood, walked to the table, and stared at it. Once he was sure it was real, he lifted his eyes to Chloe. “My people heard that this showed up in Capaville not long ago and sold for a sky–high price before the trail went cold. Seems the rumor was true. You were the one who bought it.”
“Something like that.” Chloe didn’t mention that Eugene had been the one to bid for it and give it to her.
Vincent turned the jade over in his hand. “You want B2–C to save Arthur’s grandfather?”
“That’s right. I owe him. And I repay my debts my way.”
