“Don’t rush.” A faint smile played on Chloe’s lips. “They’re next. Right now, it’s time to go take down those guys at Lewis Group who have such big heads.”

“Happy to help.” Zachary grinned and stepped aside, making way for her.

Chloe walked into the conference room. It was packed.

Every shareholder was there. All the senior executives showed up. Even the department heads had come. The place was full. And the shareholders she had called out earlier–Ernesto and Monique–were there too.

Around the large round table, the shareholders sat in a circle. Right across from her was Scott, with Monique and Ernesto on either side of him.

Chloe’s eyes stayed on Ernesto a moment longer.

He looked… rough. His beard was messy. Seriously?

Holding back a laugh, she walked forward calmly and took her seat. She sat facing Scott, with shareholders and executives lined up on both sides.

The moment Chloe stepped in, all eyes turned to her.

She had just settled into her chair when a shareholder spoke up.

“Chloe, you’ve seen what’s happening online. The board has squashed the news that you were made VP.” His voice turned sharp. “If we make your VP appointment public now, the whole Lewis Group will be in even bigger trouble. That promise you made—to turn Lewis Group around in a month? It’s not happening. The board isn’t gonna let you risk it, so-”

“Wait.” Chloe raised her hand, cutting him off. Her smile was cool and faint. “It’s only the first day, and you already want me out? Have you forgotten I’m the largest shareholder here?”

An awkward silence fell over the room. Monique and a few others looked particularly sour.

“Announcing that I’ll serve as vice president of Lewis Group and manage the company alongside Mr. Lewis has nothing to do with online gossip.” Chloe’s tone remained relaxed. “It’s just noise, rumors, lies. None of that contradicts my goal to get Lewis Group profitable again.”

A wave of surprise passed through the room. Chloe’s calmness unsettled them.
