After this brief explanation, the medical team moved on. Arthur stood frozen in place, fists clenched; he was trembling with emotion.

Soon, Charles was wheeled out. A ventilator covered his mouth, but his complexion looked noticeably better than before the operation.

“Grandpa, can you hear me? I’m Arthur! Grandpa…” Arthur rushed to the bed, his voice breaking as he called out.

“Mr. Myers, the anesthesia hasn’t worn off yet. He can’t hear you,” Blaine said as he emerged, removing his mask with a calm smile.

Arthur looked up at Blaine and gave him a deep bow.

“Dr. Palma, thank you.”

Blaine simply smiled gently. “We need to move Mr. Charles Myers to the recovery unit now. And don’t thank me—if anything, I should thank you for your generous donation to the charity fund. I knew how serious this case was, so I gave it my absolute best.”

“Thank you.” Arthur nodded. He took the handles of the hospital bed from a nurse and personally wheeled his grandfather toward the ward.

As Arthur hurried away with Charles, Madilyn remained seated, staring blankly at the old man on the bed.

The last time she’d seen him, his face was deathly pale–he’d looked like he wouldn’t last much longer. But now, after a major operation, his color was surprisingly good. Was he really going to wake up?

“His daily medication contained toxic substances–the kind routine tests wouldn’t detect. But the poisoning signs are clear, so it must be in his daily routine. Either someone around him is doing it, or the household staff has been bribed. You lived at the Myers Manor back then. Did you notice anything unusual?”

After he finished, the line stayed silent for a long moment.

Blaine waited patiently, then asked gently, “Don’t worry. The hospital care team–every single member–are my people. No one can get near Mr. Charles Myers now. What’s your next step?”

“I’ve got it. Thanks.”

Hearing she was about to hang up, he quickly added, “Oh, and my sweet Melinda keeps asking to see you!”

“We’ll see.”

“She’s turning twenty soon. She really misses you.”

“Alright, I promise. When she arrives in Capaville, I’ll arrange it,” Chloe replied before ending the call.

She stood by the floor–to–ceiling window, looking down at the city. The view from up here was hard not to admire.

“The meeting is about to start.”

Zachary’s voice came from behind. Chloe turned and responded softly.
