**A Promise Hidden in the Quiet Rain by Adrian Hale**
**Chapter 329: Broken Promises**
Scott stood frozen for a moment, a wave of uncertainty washing over him as he tried to dig through the recesses of his mind to remember where the ring could possibly be hidden.
In his recollection, those precious items had indeed been tucked away at the Lewis Manor, a place that had faded into the background of his life after Chloe’s mother passed away. The weight of that loss had overshadowed everything, and he had neglected to think about the keepsakes that once held so much significance. If Chloe hadn’t brought it up so unexpectedly, he might have completely forgotten about their existence.
“Just a moment—I’ll head back and search for it right now,” Scott declared, shaking off his confusion. He set aside everything else that occupied his mind. Chloe’s request for her mother’s cherished memento struck a chord deep within him, compelling him to return to the manor without delay.
“There’s still a bit of time left before the negotiations wrap up. I’ll make it back before then. Chloe, the Lewis Group needs this partnership,” he assured her, his voice earnest as he prepared to leave.
As he rushed away, Chloe’s gaze turned even colder, her expression a mixture of disappointment and frustration.
Scott could feel the weight of her icy demeanor pressing down on him, and embarrassment crept into his chest. “Chloe, I truly apologize. I searched the entire place, turned everything upside down, but the ring is simply not there…” His voice trailed off, unable to articulate the depth of his failure.
He had dashed back to the Lewis Manor, heart racing, fueled by the urgency of Chloe’s request. Yet, after scouring every room, every nook and cranny, and even enlisting the help of the housekeeper and staff, he had come up empty-handed.
Finally, the housekeeper had mentioned that Monique might have taken it. After Chloe’s mother’s passing, all her possessions had been moved to another room. When Monique and Carolyn moved in, Monique had taken over that space, and the late Mrs. Lewis’s belongings had been relegated to the basement storage.
The ring, a symbol of love and remembrance, had ended up in Monique’s possession.
Scott’s mind raced back to the day he married Monique. She had swiftly assumed control of all household matters, managing the minutiae while he focused on the company. He had paid little attention to such details, trusting her to handle everything.
Monique must know where the ring is, he thought desperately.
He attempted to call her, dialing her number multiple times, but each attempt met with silence.
Where could Monique be?
Anxiety twisted in his stomach as the clock ticked away. It was negotiation day, and time was slipping through his fingers. Had she gone to the office too?
