Scott stepped through the threshold of his home, still engaged in a phone call that seemed to consume him entirely. The moment the name “Chloe” slipped from his lips, Monique and Carolyn, who had been lounging comfortably on the sofa, straightened up in unison. A shared glance passed between them, one filled with unspoken questions and concerns.

Carolyn shot a quick, apprehensive look at her mother before redirecting her focus to Scott. He was oblivious to the subtle tension in the room, completely engrossed in the conversation.
