Madilyn surveyed the opulent scene before her and let out a disdainful sniff.

“Remember, you’re here today as Arthur’s wife. Don’t cause any trouble–unless you want to face the consequences,” she warned Jennifer coldly before gliding away with practiced elegance.
Jennifer stood still, watching Madilyn’s retreating figure, a faint smile playing on her lips.
Cause trouble?
There would certainly be trouble at today’s banquet–but she wouldn’t be the one starting it.
Jennifer’s expression darkened as she took in the bustling celebration.
Most of these guests had come out of genuine admiration. The names “Lewis Group” and “Chloe” were on everyone’s lips these days!
Soon, everyone would be eagerly awaiting Chloe’s appearance. What a pity she wouldn’t be showing up at all.
She wouldn’t have the chance–no, she would never have the chance again.
Jennifer smoothed her expression, stepped forward, and linked her arm through Arthur’s.
Arthur started slightly, as if pulled from deep thought.
“Arthur, this banquet is so magnificent. If we hold our wedding someday, can we make it this grand?” Jennifer offered what she believed was her most charming smile, gazing at him with apparent expectation.
When Arthur heard the word “wedding“, his expression grew distant. The term transported him back six years, to the day he’d married Chloe. The ceremony he’d given her had been so simple, so rushed–her brief appearance had felt like an inconvenience to him. They hadn’t even made the news public, settling for a small, private ceremony.
Only a handful of relatives and friends had attended. They’d exchanged rings before the pastor and his grandfather. Throughout it all, Chloe hadn’t uttered a single word of complaint.
She’d seemed so undemanding. Back then, he’d assumed she was playing hard to get. Why else would she marry him, if not for the Myers family fortune? After all, she was from a small town.
From a small town…
The moment that thought crossed his mind, Arthur felt utterly foolish.

The ring….

Thinking of the ring, Arthur glanced down at his finger. He now wore an exclusive, custom- designed band–the most expensive matching set Jennifer had insisted they buy at a high–end jewelry store right after they’d gotten their marriage certificate.
The women’s version was now on Jennifer’s finger.
The ring he’d worn when he married Chloe… he seemed to have lost it. He couldn’t even remember where. And what about Chloe’s?
Did she still have hers?
Chloe hated him so intensely. They were already divorced–why would she keep anything that reminded her of him?
She despised him to the core. There was no trace of him left in her eyes.
Arthur, how could you be so pathetic?
So foolish. Regretting things now? Do you even deserve to?
Jennifer noticed Arthur staring at the ring on his finger. Assuming he was imagining their future wedding, her heart swelled with excitement. She tightened her grip on his arm.
“Arthur, I love you so much!”
“Jennifer, let’s go. The banquet is about to start,” Arthur said, eager to enter the venue and compose himself. He didn’t want her to guess what was really on his mind.
“Alright.” Jennifer smiled and adjusted her expensive gown. Following Charles‘ earlier instructions, she had chosen a dress worth over a million dollars–a limited edition with only ten pieces in the world. At such an exclusive event, the worst faux pas would be wearing the same dress as someone else. Today, she would undoubtedly shine.
She was Jennifer, a recognized concert pianist. Standing beside Arthur today, all the previous rumors and accusations against her would fade into nothing.
She wanted everyone to know she was Arthur’s wife–the legitimate lady of the Myers family.
So what if Chloe had been married to Arthur for six years? She had never appeared publicly with him. If Arthur hadn’t foolishly disclosed their marriage back then, who would have even known about it?
Now, she was the one by his side!
