Chapter 48 Unreasonable Demands

“Ha! You think I’m still hung up? I’m over it. You two could get married right here for all I care; it’s none of my business.

“Your life doesn’t affect me anymore. I don’t want to see you, not even a little bit. Chloe pointed firmly toward the door. “Arthur, do me a favor and get out! Don’t waste my time–I’m trying to eat.

“Chloe, I never knew jealousy could change someone so much. There’s nothing between me and Jennifer, yet you keep badmouthing her every chance you get. You’re so determined to provoke me; you’re not even the same person anymore.”

“Get out!” Chloe had had enough. Arguing with this fool was just draining her energy.

“Chloe, what do you want? What will it take for you to go back to how you used to be?” Arthur was starting to realize he missed the old Chloe–sweet, gentle, and always by his side.

Chloe struggled to keep her temper in check. She desperately wanted to teach this arrogant, clueless man a lesson herself.

“You want the old me back? Fine, that’s easy. Send Jennifer and her kid abroad, cut all contact, and I’ll go right back to being your devoted wife. Do we have a deal?” Chloe’s tone was light, but her raised eyebrow hinted at the challenge.

“You…” Arthur stared at her, shocked she would suggest such a thing. So this was all just a power play?

“You keep saying Jennifer means nothing to you? Then prove it. Send them away with some money as compensation for saving your life, and never speak to them again.

“I’ll stay as your wife, you’ll remain my husband. Sounds fair, esn’t it?”

Chloe’s voice was steady, her eyes locked on Arthur. Her expression gave nothing away. Arthur couldn’t tell if she was joking or dead serious.

Arthur stood frozen for a moment, nearly saying yes. But then he pulled back. Jennifer hadn’t actually done anything wrong, yet Chloe was acting like she was the villain here. She was crossing a line.

The truth was, he didn’t have those kinds of feelings for Jennifer–never had. But she’d lost everything. Now it was just her and her child, completely on her own. He felt he owed her everything–after all, she’d saved

his life.

He was only looking out for them, that’s all. Chloe’s demands went too far.

Just then, Arthur’s phone rang at the worst possible moment.

Chloe recognized the ringtone. He’d set it specially for Jennifer and Jenarth so he’d never miss their calls.

The phone kept ringing. Arthur hesitated but didn’t pick up.

Chloe’s lips twisted into a mocking smile as she watched him.

Finally, the ringing stopped.

Arthur fell into silence.

Chloe had truly changed. Arthur didn’t want to argue anymore. He just snorted coldly. “You think everyone’s as unreasonable as you?”

“Don’t let the door hit you on your way out! And please close it behind you.” Chloe shut her eyes, ignoring him completely.

Arthur was furious for being dismissed like this again.

“Hurry up and leave! If Mrs. Madilyn Myers finds out you’re here, she’ll probably blame Mommy for trying to see you on purpose, like she’s desperate to hold onto you.

“But honestly, Mommy’s just an innocent bystander. She couldn’t care less whether you show up or not.” Robert spoke with surprising seriousness.

Arthur snapped back, “Robert Myers, I’m your father! How dare you speak to me like that? Mrs. Madilyn Myers? Did your mother teach you to call her that?”
