Chloe just smiled lightly. “You two go ahead with the registration. I won’t disturb you.” She turned to walk
away.
“Chloe, you came here on purpose, didn’t you? Just to create a chance to see me.”
Arthur’s voice carried after her. Chloe couldn’t help but laugh when she heard him.
She was really amused by his confidence.
She turned back to face him. “Arthur, when are you going to get that ego of yours under control? You think way too highly of yourself. One day it’s going to backfire on you.”
“Jennifer just told you–I’m here to get Jenarth registered. Why do you always have to pick a fight? Can we just talk about this like adults?” Arthur looked at her, frustrated. “When will you ever go back to the way you were before?”
“Never,” Chloe fired back. “Arthur, wake up and face the truth. This is Robert’s kindergarten. I’m just dropping him off like any mother would. But you–how many times have you ever brought Robert to school? ‘Creating a chance to see you‘? Don’t flatter yourself.”
Arthur’s gaze locked on Chloe. Her posture was sharp, without an ounce of backing down in her demeanor -he knit his brows tight, unconsciously. “So you’re still hung up on that. Jennifer saved me. I owe her. I’m just helping out with Jenarth’s schooling. It’s not a big deal, yet you keep making it one.”
“Say whatever you want, Arthur. But let me be clear–my patience is on a very short leash. Don’t push me, or you’ll regret it.” Her voice was cold as ice.
“You-” Arthur was about to explode, but Jennifer quickly took his hand.
“Arthur, just drop it. Chloe’s too upset to hear you out right now.” Jennifer spoke softly, then glanced at Chloe with a wounded look. “Chloe, I know we don’t see eye to eye. If it’ll make you feel better, I’ll do whatever you ask.”
“How generous of you. You’ll do anything? Then go to hell!” Chloe wasn’t about to pull her punches with Jennifer. If she thought she could act lofty in front of her, she’s got another think coming.
“Chloe, that’s enough!” Arthur was even angrier now. He looked ready to step forward, but Jennifer held him back.
“Arthur, it’s fine, don’t kick up a fuss on my account. This is a school!” She turned to Tracy. “Mrs. Carter, Jenarth has a weak immune system and an egg allergy. Please take good care of him.”
“Not a problem at all! We’ll take good care of him.” Tracy smiled and came over, taking Jenarth’s hand from Jennifer.
“Hello, Mrs. Carter!” Jenarth greeted her sweetly, making Tracy’s face light up.
“What a well–behaved child.”
Chloe watched the scene but didn’t pay it any mind. She turned to leave.
Chapter 57 The Only Thing I Regret
“Chloe! Wait!” Arthur called after her again.
Chloe looked back, struggling to keep her temper in check.

“Since we ran into each other, let’s find a place to chat. We need to sit down and hash things out properly. I’m sick of every conversation turning into a shouting match. This can’t go on.” Arthur stepped closer, his expression grim.
“Well, it is what it is. What’s there to talk about? There’s nothing left between us.” Chloe’s voice was firm. “I know you’re a busy man, Mr. Myers. Go spend time with your precious lover and your son.”
“Chloe, what’s wrong with you? You’re being completely unreasonable.” Arthur stared at her, disbelief in his eyes.
“Arthur, if Chloe doesn’t want to talk, don’t force her.” Jennifer stepped up and took his hand again. “She probably has to get to work! Or maybe… she’s out looking for a job?”
Arthur finally noticed Chloe’s professional outfit. He recalled Donald mentioning that Chloe had been applying for designer positions all over the place. Dressed like that, she must be busy hunting for a job.
