Tracy looked at Chloe, completely at a loss. “Ms. Lewis, you see how it is… The situation has gotten out of hand.”
“Here is the footage,” a teacher said, bringing over the surveillance recording and playing it for everyone.
Chloe stepped forward, her eyes locking onto the screen.
In the video, Robert was the first to appear. He picked up a water cup, fiddled with it for a moment, and then put it back. Soon after, Jenarth came into view, grabbed the same cup, and took a swig.
Almost immediately after drinking, Jenarth began to show signs of distress. He clutched at his throat, his face contorting in pain, then turned and hurried over to Robert. The two boys exchanged words, and a brief scuffle broke out.
The camera angle was partially obstructed by classroom furniture, making the details fuzzy, but one thing was clear–after Robert turned around, Jenarth suddenly stumbled backward. His small body wobbled and then hit the floor.
“Did you all see that? Someone pushed my Jenarth!” Jennifer cried out, her voice sharp with accusation. “And there was something wrong with that water! Someone must have put egg bits in the cup! That’s what caused Jenarth’s allergic reaction!”
With Jennifer’s words ringing in the air, all eyes turned to Chloe.
The video seemed to tell a clear story: Robert had handled the cup. Jenarth drank from it and had a reaction. A panicked Jenarth went to Robert for help, only to be shoved away. The push looked forceful, especially for a child so young, and utterly careless.
“Mrs. Carter, the proof is right there. What more is there to discuss? Just expel him! A child with such a mean streak doesn’t belong at Eaton Kindergarten,” one parent insisted.
Arthur looked at Chloe, his face a mask of disappointment.
“Chloe, you raised him to be like this? I’m deeply disappointed.”
“Mrs. Carter, you have to protect our children. As parents, we can’t accept our kids being in the same school as a child like that. If my son gets hurt next, I won’t let it go.”
The parents‘ voices rose, pressing in. Tracy let out a weary sigh and looked at Chloe, her tone grave. “Ms. Lewis, Robert pushed another kid around on purpose at school. His behavior’s really messed up things for Eaton Kindergarten. As the principal… I’ve got no choice but to discipline him.”
Chloe almost laughed out loud at that.
So quick to point the finger at Robert? Eaton’s judgment was hasty, to say the least.
They were ready to convict Robert based on a blurry, partially blocked video that showed almost nothing!
It was ridiculous.
Chloe pulled Robert protectively behind her, meeting the crowd’s stares with a cold gaze. “If I’m not

mistaken, that was Robert’s personal cup, wasn’t it?”
Her question made everyone glance at Jenarth, who was still nestled in Jennifer’s arms.
Finisher
Jenarth peeked out, his voice small and wounded. “I… I just started school. I don’t have my own cup yet. Robert is my brother, so I thought it was okay to use his. I didn’t know there was egg in it…”
His eyes welled up with tears as he continued, clearly upset. “I felt so sick, so I went to Robert for help. But he said… he said I had it coming, that I’d be better off dead… I just tried to pull his sleeve, to ask him to get a teacher, and then he pushed me!”
“I didn’t push him. He fell by himself. The egg thing has even less to do with me,” Robert stated, a flash of contempt in his eyes. “And if I really wanted to deal with him, I wouldn’t use a stupid trick like that.”
