“Listen, ma’am,” one parent said sharply, “you need to make your son apologize, take responsibility for his actions, and promise the teachers he won’t bully other children. Do that, and he might be allowed to stay at Eaton Kindergarten. Refuse, and he’s out. Today.”

“This is a private institution. Who the heck takes their kid to school on a shared bike?!” another muttered dismissively.

“With behavior like his, that boy doesn’t belong here. He needs to be expelled.”

Some parents, looking down on Chloe for her mode of transport, let their bias show. They wished she and her son would just vanish.

Chloe pulled Robert firmly behind her, her gaze icy as it swept over the crowd. “No one is touching my son today.”

Her intense desire to protect only made the crowd more hostile.

“See? That’s exactly how kids learn to be rude–when their parents act like this!”

“Expel him! He needs to go right now!”

The accusations flew, and the parents grew more and more agitated.

Arthur looked at Chloe and shook his head in disappointment. The evidence seemed clear to him, yet Chloe was stubbornly shielding Robert.
