He Loved My Sister. I’m Better Off Without Him novel Chapter 16

Chapter 160

Even though the night had fallen, Brian still hadn’t given up his search for me as he kept holding his car keys. Suddenly, the door burst open. His assistant ran in, gasping for breath.

Mr. Herbert! We found something. You need to see this immediately!

His assistant’s tablet lit up. Without waiting for Brian to take it, he tapped on the screen and played a surveillance video. The footage was grainy but clear enough to make out what was happening.

Several men in black were dragging me inside In the corner of a dark, rundown warehouse. Not far away, someone stood like a puppet master pulling the strings. It was Adeline.

Her usual sweet and gentle face changed into something cruel and terrifying. She sneered and barked orders to the men.Watch her carefully! Don’t let her escape. Once I’m done dealing with Brian, I’ll come back and have some fun with her myself!

Brian’s pupils constricted sharply as his entire body went rigid. He stared at Adeline on the screen as if seeing her for the first time, clenching his fists. The truth hit him like a cold blade. Adeline was the one who had planned my kidnapping.

But before he could react, his assistant’s voice trembled with even worse news.

Mr. Herbert, this isn’t the worst of it.}

Brian’s head snapped toward him, his tone dangerously sharp as he said, Tell me.

The assistant’s voice trembled as he swiped his tablet, saying, The company’s stock price just plummeted thirty minutes ago. It dropped fifteen points in one go!

And that new energy project we invested in last monthit’s a fake company. The other company vanished overnight with more than three billion dollars of our funds. On top of that, our core technology has been completely blocked.

A fake company?Brian asked coldly.

Brian closed his eyes for a brief moment. When he opened them again, they were filled with a terrifying resolve. For a while, he kept his silence.

He drummed his knuckles against the coffee table as he then said, Get the risk control department to stabilize the company. Then, bring Adeline to me immediately.

The assistant’s face turned pale, but he didn’t dare ask anything further. He simply bowed and made the call. Half an hour later, two bodyguards dragged Adeline into the Herbert Family’s mansion.[

The moment she saw Brian, Adeline ran forward with tears streaming down her face.

Brian! Please, you have to save the Wyatt Family! The company’s stock suddenly crashed. My father is so worried he nearly fainted! You’re the only one who can help us!}

She truly believed Brian had come for her to clean up her mess and protect her without question just like every other time. But this time, Brian’s hand shot out. He gripped her wrist like a vice before hurling her backward.

Adeline stumbled and fell hard onto the carpet. Her tears feli even faster as she was in pain. When she looked up, Brian looked at her in fury. He looked like as if wanting to kill her, which scared her.

Brian, what’s wrong with you?

What’s wrong with me?

His voice dripped with rage and disgust as he continued, Adeline, I hever imagined you could be this deceitful. You kidnapped Lilian. You bribed the prison guards. You faked injuries to frame her and played the innocent victim every single

time.

Tell me, is there anything you won’t do?Z

Adeline’s face turned ghostly pale. Her lips trembled as she shook her head wildly. Again, tears were streaming down her cheeks.

No! It wasn’t me, Brian! Don’t believe what others say! It’s Lilian, isn’t it? She must have told you all this! She’s always been jealous of me and can’t stand to see us together!

Even now, Adeline was still acting to make me the villain. However, Brian stared at her coldly. The sight of her false tears only made his anger boil hotter.

For so long, Brian had been blinded by her act. He had thought Adeline was fragile and innocent, someone who needed his protection. But now all he saw was a facade.
