Chapter 180
For a long moment, Adeline stayed on the floor trembling. Then, she suddenly screamed at Brian. Her voice sharp and desperate as she begged, “It’s not me! It really isn’t me!”
Adeline thought that as long as she kept denying it, no one could touch her. After all, I had already gone to the Lloyd Family. She believed I would disappear just like the other women who had married into that family before.
But Brian didn’t even seem to hear her. He leaned forward and grabbed her by the throat. Adeline gasped for air. Her face turned a frightening shade of purple. She shook her head wildly, but his grip only grew tighter as he looked at her murderously.
“Even now, you’re still so stubborn?” His voice was full of rage.
Just then, his assistant rushed in as he held another tablet.
“Mr. Herbert! We’ve found something new! You need to see this!”
He quickly played a video on the screen. The footage showed me sitting alone in the emergency room hallway at the Royal London Hospital.
My face was pale as paper, while my arms were covered in scratches that no one had treated. I was sitting there quietly, clutching the corner of my clothes with my fingertips. My eyes were red and filled with despair.
The next clip showed me talking with my parents. I was agreeing to marry into Mark’s family in Adeline’s place, in exchange for a billion dollars and a letter cutting all family ties.
In the video, my parents didn’t show a shred of care or love for me. They didn’t even hesitate. They just weighed the benefits and made their choice. When the letter of announcement to cut the family ties was brought out, they didn’t even read it carefully before signing their names.
Brian stared at the sad me from the screen. His whole heart tightened. It felt like the air had been sucked out of the room.
He had always thought my parents were just cold because they weren’t familiar with me yet. He believed that over time, they would care for me and accept me. But now, the truth was clear.
They had never seen me as family. From the very beginning, they had only wanted me gone. Perhaps, they even wanted me dead.
“Ha ha… ”
Brian let out a low, bitter laugh, full of pain and anger. His hand suddenly loosened. Adeline fell to the ground, coughing and gasping for breath.[
At that moment, the doorbell rang. The bodyguard opened the door with my parents rushed in. The moment Mrs. Wyatt saw Adeline on the floor, she ran to her side. She then glared at Brian with wide, furious eyes.
“Brian! What’re you thinking? How could you hurt Adeline like this?” she screamed.
Mr. Wyatt frowned and spoke in a stern, cold tone, “Mr. Herbert, let’s calm down and talk. Adeline is our daughter. You can’t treat her this way.”
Brian turned slowly as he looked at them icily.
*Your daughter? Do you even know what she’s done? Kidnapping Lilian, bribing prison guards, framing her at every turn. Every single thing she did was cruel and unforgivable!”
Mrs. Wyatt froze for a moment, but she then quickly waved her hand and forced a laugh.”
“Don’t believe what they say! Adeline is such a sweet, kind girl. How could she do something like that? It must be Lilian! She’s always disliked Adeline and finally found a way to frame her!“}
“Framed?”
