Chapter 132

Things were way différent in the Johnson family compared to the Hayes family. At the Hayes, everyone kept an eye on her. If she were even a little off, they’d come comfort her.
But here, Anna had to watch her every move. “Please don’t tease me. I don’t know what to do, and I’m afraid I might offend you if I come out I’d rather just stay in my room,” Anna said.
“The weather’s nice today. Our sister said she wants to go for a walk. Aren’t you coming with us?” a little girl asked.
Anna didn’t show any expression. “I won’t go out. I caught a cold recently. I’m worried I might pass it to you.”
“You keep hiding. What if you infect Monroe? You’d better come out, or we’ll come in and drag you out,” someone else said.
Anna knew she couldn’t avoid it anymore, so she stepped out of her room. Suddenly, she tripped over something she didn’t see and fell.
Everyone burst out laughing. The little girl said, “Anna, why are you bowing so deeply as soon as you come out? We can’t handle that.”
Anna tried to stand up. An older girl came over to help, but accidentally stepped on Anna’s hand. “Ah!” Anna screamed in pain.
The girl acted like she didn’t notice and quickly moved her foot. “Sorry, sorry, I didn’t see. Don’t mind me.”
Anna knew they did it on purpose. Stuff like this had happened so many times she’d lost count. Anna wanted to tell Monroe, but she’d just arrived.
that he
No matter how much Monroe liked her, he was still family. It was already a big deal that he brought her to their home. If Monroe found out, Anna said it was her fault, he would feel even more sorry for her.
She wanted Monroe’s love. As for these people, she planned to deal with them after she married Monroe. The little girl grabbed Anna’s arm and said, “Anna, let’s go play.”
After days without sunlight, the warmth outside felt good. Anna felt a comfort she hadn’t felt in a long time. Suddenly, someone rushed over and shoved Anna to the ground. Then several people grabbed her hard.
“Anna, you shameless flirt! How dare you try to seduce Monroe? Do you
think Monroe could ever marry trash like you?
“As long as you don’t leave, we’ll make your life miserable every day. Our senior already said, as long as we don’t kill you, we can torture you
however we want.”
Nobody in the Johnson family liked Anna. They all knew about the Hayes family and had heard the stories about her. Arthur argued with Monroe about this several times, but Monroe was stubborn. He liked Anna and wanted to marry her.
This time, he brought Anna home again. Arthur saw this wouldn’t work, so he decided to go after Anna. If Anna left, Monroe would give up.
“What are you all doing? Let her go!” Just then, Monroe, who was supposed to be at work, suddenly showed up. Everyone froze and quickly stood up, panic clear in their eyes.
Monroe was the Johnson family’s illegitimate son. Since he was the only son, they brought him home to take over the family business.
His sister–in–law was from another branch of the Johnson family, and they all lived together in one big family compound.
The Johnson family didn’t allow any of their members to live outside the compound. So when Monroe wanted to bring Anna over, he had no

choice but to keep her at home.
A few days ago, he noticed bruises and other marks on Anna’s body. He couldn’t believe she could get hurt like that just living a normal file
He asked her about it, but she didn’t say a word. Today, he left work early on purpose to check on her. Sure enough, he saw things he wasn’t supposed to see.
“Why are you bullying Anna?” Monroe asked as he picked her up. Seeing how weak she looked, he felt so heartbroken.
Nobody answered. Monroe already knew what was going on. He snorted and said, “I get it. Grandpa told you to do this, right? You just do
whatever Grandpa says. Who runs this family-”
Before he could finish, Anna quickly put her hand over his mouth. “No, Monroe. Don’t say that.”
Monroe looked at her and felt even worse. He carried her back to the room. When he saw the purple bruises where they’d pinched her, he felt
like he wanted to kill them.
Anna said, “I’m okay, Monroe. It’s my fault. If I hadn’t made that request earlier, you wouldn’t have been in this mess.”
Monroe said, “Don’t say that. I like you. I was the one who started all this. It hurts me so much that you had to go through this because of
me.”
Anna smiled and shook her head. “No matter what Grandpa and the others do, it won’t change how I feel about you. Anna, if it weren’t for you, I would have died on the street. You saved me,” Monroe said.
Anna’s expression shifted. She’d known Monroe for a long time but never realized she saved him. Not many guys chased Anna because she looked sickly and had been publicly with Lionel for a while.
But Monroe was different. He quietly looked out for her and treated her well. When Anna was about to get engaged to Lionel, Monroe even cried. He called her late at night, and she could tell he was drunk.
Back then, Anna didn’t think much about it. She just thought it was nice someone liked her. She figured it was because she was charming. But today, he told her she saved him.
