As Shannon vanished, Louise grabbed Thalia and turned to leave with her.
Seeing this, Zane instinctively took a step forward and wanted to speak, but those around him had disappeared one after another.
He pursed his lips and silently grasped the red string tied around his wrist. His eyes were filled with heavy worry and sombreness.
So, Bianca was just like him.
…
The night sky was dark, while the moon hung high and bright.
Lights were ablaze in Bianca's courtyard.
When Shannon arrived, she saw that the room was filled with candles. Flickering flames cast dancing shadows and left only a narrow path clear for walking.
A bed sat at the end of that path. On it, a lone figure lay silently and unmoving.
Shannon stepped across the candle-lit walkway, and her figure flashed as she instantly appeared beside the bed. Then, she reached out and gently lifted Bianca into her arms.
As she turned Bianca over, Bianca's face bathed in candlelight was deathly pale.
At the corner of her lips, blood had dried into a thin, ominous streak. It was a clear sign of backlash.
Shannon's heart missed a beat as her hand supporting Bianca tightened slightly.
Bianca slowly opened her eyes. The moment she saw Shannon, a soft light ignited in her gaze. She gave a faint, comforting smile and weakly called out, "Shannon… You're back."
Her lips curled into a weak smile as she added, "Congratulations. You're truly ten-tailed now."
Shannon's heart tensed again, and she nodded. "Yeah. It's all thanks to you."
"I'm… fine. I'm willing to pay any price as long as you're safe," Bianca murmured, forcing a smile.
Just as she spoke, her head suddenly tilted before coughing out a mouthful of blood with a spluttering sound. Her already pale face lost more color.
"You're mistaken," Shannon said, cutting her off.
"Come on. I'm like this already… Can't you not fight me over that? It's my great-grandmother… How could I not recognize her?"
For once, Shannon didn't argue with her and said, "...If you say so, then so be it."
She continued gently wiping the blood from Bianca's lips with slow, careful movements.
Off to the side, Thalia looked like she might burst into tears at any second.
Just then, a familiar presence entered the room. A ball of foxfire suddenly appeared amidst the flickering candlelight, and Marilyn's seven-tailed form soon materialized within that glow.
Her fox form rapidly grew within the foxfire. Her pointed fox face loomed close and straight toward Bianca's bed.
There was danger in her eyes as she gritted her teeth and hissed, "Tell me… Do I look like your great-grandmother?"
